Lewis Hall played a major role as Newcastle United beat Manchester City in the Premier League on Saturday evening.

Hall was making only his third start of the season but proved excellent once again as Newcastle United won 2-1 against Manchester City.

Bruno Guimaraes, Tino Livramento and Harvey Barnes were other standouts on what was a fine evening for Newcastle, but Hall helped transform Eddie Howe’s side.

Who was your Newcastle United MOTM against Manchester City?

Indeed, Hall was brilliant for Newcastle United against Man City and it is difficult to overstate his importance to Howe.

While Dan Burn generally did a decent shift at left-back other than a few poor performances against West Ham and Brentford, he just cannot offer the same verve as Hall.

Lewis Hall says beating Man City “felt good”

After the game, Hall captioned an Instagram post: “That one felt good! Unbelievable atmosphere today.”

The fact he was seen celebrating with his teammates during their lap of honour at St James’ Park, as well as in the tunnel, should hopefully allay any injury fears.

Hall came off for the 15 minutes or so but Howe then suggested it was down to cramp more than anything else.

The likes of Livramento and Guimaraes responded to Hall.

Livramento wrote: “Warra player.”

Guimaraes, meanwhile, added: “Missed you too much my bro.”

Lewis Hall sends statement of intent to Thomas Tuchel after Newcastle United return

This has been a frustrating season for Hall, with last year’s foot injury and a subsequent hamstring problem derailing his progress.

Reminder: Paul Mitchell once thought that Newcastle United overspent on Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall.

In May 2025, The Daily Mail claimed that Paul Mitchell “made no secret of his belief the club overpaid for Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento.” 🤣

His performance against City was a reminder to everyone about his quality. England fans want Hall to start at next summer’s World Cup, with left-back proving a problem position under Thomas Tuchel thus far.

On that kind of evidence, they’re right to.

The 21-year-old just enjoyed a fine comeback against one of the best teams in the Premier League.

Tuchel will surely be watching. Hall and Livramento look like the future of England’s full-backs for many years to come.
