Former Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson appears to be coming towards the end of his short spell at West Ham.

Wilson, one of the greatest strikers Newcastle United have ever had in the Premier League era, joined the Hammers on a short-term deal back in August.

While the 33-year-old has scored an impressive four goals in eight starts for the London club, the Irons as a collective are in crisis.

They have also recently signed forwards Pablo Felipe and Taty Castellanos as they attempt to claw their way out of the relegation zone.

As such, Wilson is expected to leave West Ham and the situation developed just before they lost to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

Callum Wilson withdrawn from West Ham squad vs Nottingham Forest

Wilson was left out of the Hammers squad who lost to relegation rivals Forest at home on Tuesday night.

That in itself isn’t a huge surprise given his exit links, though journalist Jacob Steinberg of The Guardian shared some interesting insight.

On social media platform X, he revealed that Wilson was in fact due to be in the West Ham squad for the Forest game but was withdrawn from it on the day of the game.

He wrote: “Callum Wilson was due to be in the West Ham squad but was withdrawn from it today….”

Do Newcastle United need to sign a ‘number 10’ in January?

Imagine having a maverick like HBA or Ginola again! 😍

Why Wilson left Newcastle United against the club’s wishes

Wilson didn’t particularly convince towards the end of his time at Newcastle after so many injuries.

Still, his contribution to the cause can hardly be forgotten. After all, he scored 49 goals in 130 games for the club, during a largely bleak period in Newcastle’s history.

Having worked with Eddie Howe at Bournemouth, Wilson enjoyed a close relationship with the Newcastle United manager.

In fact, Newcastle wanted to keep Wilson in the summer of 2025, but he chose to leave the club in pursuit of a new challenge.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for him.
