Newcastle United have received an approach from Liverpool for star striker Alexander Isak, but the Magpies are adamant he is not for sale.
When the news came through, it was sure to have sent a shiver down the spine of many fans. Liverpool have officially publicised their interest in Alexander Isak after months of reports stating their admiration.
However, the message was clear from Newcastle United that their star striker is not for sale. Isak was the Magpies’ hero during the 2024/25 season, going on an insane scoring run to help them qualify for the Champions League, while his goal in the Carabao Cup final helped Newcastle win their first silverware in 1969.
Geordie Boot Boys understand Isak is Liverpool’s dream target, but there is no chance he is leaving for the £120m they initially proposed.
Newcastle believe Liverpool’s approach is to try and unsettle Isak, but with the Swede expected to sit down for contract talks this summer, that appears to be far from the case.
While giving him a new contract is one thing, Newcastle could do something else which would upset many fans, but ensure Liverpool were no longer interested in Isak.

Newcastle United could allow Liverpool sign Hugo Ekitike to keep Alexander Isak
After initial reports on Saturday, it was revealed Newcastle had held talks with Eintracht Frankfurt over Hugo Ekitike. The striker enjoyed a fine season in the Bundesliga, registering 23 goal involvements to help Frankfurt qualify for the Champions League.
It was confirmed that Newcastle’s £69.5million bid for Ekitike had been rejected, but Howe is likely to instruct his recruitment team to go back in for him.
However, Howe could drop their interest and allow Liverpool to steal a march on the 23-year-old French striker. Liverpool are set to sell Darwin Nunez this summer, so they are desperate for a new striker after their Premier League title-winning season.
After talks seemed to be in an advanced stage, fans would no doubt be disappointed if Liverpool suddenly signed him, but it would mean that their interest in Isak would cease.
In an ideal world, Newcastle would sign Ekitike and play him alongside Isak next season, but it remains to be seen what happens this summer.

Newcastle United must accelerate Alexander Isak’s contract talks after Liverpool development
Newcastle fans want Isak and Ekitike as a strike partnership next season, but Liverpool are ready to spoil the party.
However, there is another way the transfer saga could easily be ended, and that is by Newcastle giving Isak a new contract this summer. Talks are supposed to kick off for a new deal later in the summer window, with new arrivals clearly taking priority. But the latest development on Isak and Liverpool have made it clear that Newcastle must now bring their plans forward and get him to agree to a deal before the end of the transfer window.
Isak wants to be Newcastle’s highest-paid player, overtaking Bruno Guimaraes’ £160,000-a-week on Tyneside. The Swede was reportedly only interested in signing a new deal if Newcastle got Champions League football, which they did.
Additionally, Isak will be offered the No.9 shirt at Newcastle this summer, though it remains to be seen whether it will still be available if Ekitike signs.
