Newcastle United insiders are seemingly on the same page as supporters when it comes to Sandro Tonali’s comments on his future.

While Tonali is effectively under contract at Newcastle United until the summer of 2030, it would clearly be foolish to definitively suggest he will stay at the club until that point.

Everyone at Newcastle United should have learned from the Alexander Isak saga. Isak, after all, had three years left on his contract this summer but still forced a move away from the club.

Tonali’s honest comments on his Newcastle future were always going to be a major talking point amongst supporters, such is his importance to the cause. The fact they come only a few months after Isak’s exit makes them all the more interesting.

Still, they do not appear to have caused much alarm behind the scenes.

Newcastle United insiders relaxed over Sandro Tonali’s comments on his future

When asked about his long-term future at Newcastle, Tonali said: “The last summer was tough for us, for Alex [Isak], but this is football. If you have an option for your life, for another team you need to think about everything.

“I don’t want to say ‘Yes, I want to stay here 10 years’ but now I’m happy here. I don’t think anything about any other team.”

Such honesty appears to have gone down well behind the scenes, however.

Indeed, according to The Daily Mail, the club respect the fact their player was simply trying to answer the question as honestly as he could.

Why Newcastle United reaction to Sandro Tonali’s comments speaks volumes

Newcastle fans respect Tonali’s honesty and the fact the comments haven’t caused huge distress speaks volumes about the mutual respect between all parties.

Few would have blamed Isak for wanting to leave. The manner in which he went about things after publicly claiming he was happy at the club in March, however, is what provoked such fury.

Tonali could arguably play for any team in the world. If a move comes up to a team who are consistently winning major honours, then good luck to him.

Being open and honest at least lets supporters know where they stand. Transfer sagas do not always have to be toxic affairs, even if the thought of Tonali leaving is painful right now.
