Expectations are not high as Newcastle United prepare to welcome Manchester City to St James’ Park.

The Magpies face Pep Guardiola’s side on Saturday evening, with Gary Neville predicting Newcastle United to lose.

Manchester City certainly go into the game as favourites. They are pushing to challenge for the title, while Erling Haaland is in excellent form. As for Eddie Howe’s side, they are down in 14th place.

Newcastle United need to bounce back, but will that be possible against Man City? Geordie Boot Boys’ team of writers give their verdict.

Prediction for Newcastle vs Man City?

This is the kind of game Newcastle United get up for – James Rutherford

Newcastle United’s record against Manchester City is shocking, but there has to be a response from Howe’s team after their dismal showing before the international break.

While the away form is the problem, this is the kind of game that this Newcastle United squad get up for. Speaking of away form, Man City’s isn’t great either. They have been beaten by Brighton and Aston Villa on their travels, and Newcastle will hope they can do the same.

I’m ruling with my heart over my head, but I’m backing Howe’s side to win a five-goal thriller.

Prediction: Newcastle United 3 Manchester City 2.

Manchester City’s domination against Newcastle to continue – Jakob Barnes

Man City have dominated Newcastle home and away for the past 20 years and I cannot see that run ending this weekend, sadly.

Pep Guardiola’s men look red hot right now and they’ll relish facing a Newcastle team that is being pieced back together after a spate of injuries. Erling Haaland will take advantage of that and put them to the sword, while City’s overall quality will shine through.

Still, I do expect to see a lot more fight and heart from Newcastle, which is a positive step in the right direction, at least.

Prediction: Newcastle United 1 Manchester City 3.

Pep Guardiola on Newcastle United’s style of play

Today, modern football is the way Bournemouth, Newcastle, Brighton and Liverpool play. Modern football is not positional and being there, you have to rise the rhythm unbelievably.

Newcastle United’s poor run set to continue – Jonathan Gorrie

Newcastle United will almost certainly respond in terms of performance levels when Manchester City come to St James’ Park.

That in itself is worrying. This is a team who get up for the big games at home but struggle to match that intensity otherwise.

Still, too much has been made about Newcastle’s home form this season. They’ve beaten only Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Fulham in the Premier League.

Games against Arsenal and Liverpool have been tight but ultimately led to nothing. City are on that kind of level and boast a truly frightening striker in Erling Haaland.

Sadly for Newcastle, their poor run looks set to continue.

Prediction: Newcastle United 1 Manchester City 3.
