Newcastle United’s starting XI against Everton should look very different to the side that lost to Marseille.
Eddie Howe takes his team to Merseyside on Saturday evening, as Newcastle United compete at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time ever.
It is a vitally important game for Newcastle, who are aiming to bounce back after losing to Marseille in the Champions League. It is another away game for the Magpies, who have won just once on the road all season.
That needs to change on Saturday, and this is Geordie Boot Boys’ predicted Newcastle United XI to face Everton.
Newcastle United match-goers, what are you most excited about for your first ever trip to the Hill Dickinson Stadium?
Nick Pope starts despite Champions League mistake
It all went wrong against Marseille after Nick Pope’s mistake. That was the catalyst for another away defeat, as the Magpies threw away their one-goal lead.
Since then, pressure has mounted on the Newcastle goalkeeper. A lot of fans want to see Aaron Ramsdale start in his place, but they could be disappointed.
It is reported that Pope is likely to start against Everton, and he will be eager to make it up to his teammates after what happened at the Stade Velodrome.
In front of him, Lewis Hall should return to the starting XI. Elsewhere, Dan Burn is tipped to retain his place in the side and start at centre-back alongside Malick Thiaw.
Joelinton returns for Newcastle United against Everton
Joelinton played well against Manchester City, then sat out the defeat to Marseille. He did not play a single minute in France, with the likes of Joe Willock, Jacob Ramsey and Lewis Miley featuring ahead of him.
But the Brazilian should be back in the starting lineup at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, as Howe gets set to revert to his trusted 4-3-3 formation.
That will see Joelinton join Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali in midfield.
Remember when Florian Lejeune did THIS? It was pure cinema 🤣
Eddie Howe changes Harvey Barnes’ position
Going into Saturday evening’s game, Harvey Barnes is Newcastle’s most in-form player. He has got four goals and an assist in his last four games, including a brace in the win over Manchester City.
All of Barnes’ contributions have come from the left wing, but Geordie Boot Boys are predicting that he will be forced to play on the right against Everton.
That will be to accommodate Anthony Gordon, who played up front on Tuesday night in the Champions League. He will be pushed out wide to make room for Nick Woltemade, and Howe has historically picked Gordon on the left and moved Barnes to the right.
While Barnes deserves to start on the left against Everton, it feels more likely that he will be asked to switch wings.
Predicted XI vs Everton: Pope; Livramento, Thiaw, Burn, Hall; Bruno, Tonali, Joelinton; Barnes, Woltemade, Gordon.
