The idea of Newcastle United bringing Elliot Anderson back to the club now seems increasingly remote.
Geordie Boot Boys understands that Newcastle would love to re-sign Anderson, who has developed into a leading England international since leaving the club in 2024.
Anderson has been strongly tipped to leave Nottingham Forest at the end of the season, with some of the world’s leading clubs credited with an interest.
Knowing what you know now, would you have sold Alexander Isak in 2024 instead of Elliot Anderson? 🤔
In this scenario, we still win the Carabao Cup by the way 😂
Newcastle are thought to be one of them and that is hardly a surprise.
Indeed, Anderson is a huge Newcastle fan, and the idea of watching him become a world star at another club is incredibly painful.
However, it may well be on the cards.
David Ornstein confirms Elliot Anderson will be too expensive for Newcastle United
Though Anderson isn’t expected to leave in January, it does seem as if there will be a lot of interest in him next summer.
Forest face a huge battle to keep him but, according to noted transfer insider David Ornstein, Newcastle are likely to be priced out of a move.
Who is the one player you were FURIOUS with Newcastle United for selling? Go back as far as you want!
Ornstein claims that, internally, Newcastle would love to bring the midfielder back, but the costs of the deal will likely be too much for them.
Speaking on NBC Sports, Ornstein said: “Arsenal are pretty much the only team in that bracket who have a full midfield, so I wouldn’t expect them to figure and his former club, Newcastle, as much as they would love to do it, I think he’s probably going to be out of reach financially.”
Newcastle United’s academy has already produced its next Elliot Anderson
For years, the Newcastle United academy struggled to produce many players who would go on to feature in the first team.
Andy Carroll and Paul Dummett emerged at similar times, but there wasn’t really another regular produced until Sean Longstaff.
Anderson was always heralded at Newcastle and there were certainly promising signs, although it would be fair to say he never reached the level he’s at now.
Selling him was a major mistake, although an understandable decision at the same time.
Fortunately, the youth system has produced another player to get excited about in the form of Lewis Miley.
Miley has been one of Newcastle’s best players this season and having him in the squad at least partly covered Anderson’s departure.
Hopefully, Newcastle don’t sell Miley like they did Anderson…
