Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade was on the scoresheet again as Germany beat Slovakia 6-0 on Monday night.
This international break has been a successful one for Nick Woltemade.
Woltemade was questioned after Newcastle United’s defeat at Brentford, with concerns emerging over his suitability in Eddie Howe’s system.
The giant forward has relished international action, though, as Woltemade scored twice against Luxembourg on Friday.
Woltemade was back in action on Monday night as he started for Germany against Slovakia.
German media react to Nick Woltemade performance
Woltemade got the scoring started, heading home from close range with 18 minutes on the clock.
Germany went on to win 6-0 as Woltemade made it three goals in two games over this international break.
The German media raved about Woltemade’s display, with Frankfurter Rundschau hailing his all-round display.
“He not only impressed as a goalscorer, but also easily kept up with the rest of the team in terms of skill. Woltemade repeatedly dropped deep to participate in the combination play and create space. A strong performance,” they wrote.
“He dropped back into midfield more often than against Luxembourg. Nevertheless, he lost none of his power in front of goal. He headed Germany into an early lead, and his infectious enthusiasm was also instrumental in the subsequent goals. The Slovaks couldn’t contain him,” added sport.de.
“Germany’s talisman delivers again! He’s perfectly positioned after Kimmich’s cross and heads home the jubilant opening goal. His fourth consecutive international goal. He also provided a beautiful assist for Gnabry’s big chance. He covers a lot of ground, giving his all for the team,” said ran.
“The prolific striker kicked off the goal fest. His header to make it 1-0 was his fourth consecutive international goal. He worked hard for the team and initiated further goals and chances. In outstanding form,” added Express.
“Goal guarantee and World Cup stalwart. Fourth consecutive goal for Germany. With just eight international appearances, he’s become indispensable,” said Tageblatt.
It’s clear that Woltemade’s work rate and link-up play were just as appreciated as his goal to put Germany 1-0 up.

Nick Woltemade looks nailed-on as Germany’s first-choice striker
Newcastle invested big money in Woltemade upon signing him from Stuttgart.
It now looks like money well spent, with Woltemade continuing to shine for club and country.
Perhaps Newcastle moved in early to sign Woltemade, fearing that he would be even more expensive with another season of Bundesliga action – and a potential World Cup campaign.
Woltemade is now Germany’s clear first-choice striker, with Jonathan Burkardt still waiting for his first international goal.
West Ham United’s Niclas Fullkrug looks to be out of the mix, while Denis Undav, Maximilian Beier and Tim Kleindienst just can’t match Woltemade’s quality.
Monday’s goal was just another example of Woltemade’s class, and he looks set to be Germany’s leading striker for a long time to come.
