Newcastle United have agreed a deal for VfB Stuttgart striker Nick Woltemade, who has completed his medical ahead of a club record move.
At last, the Magpies are signing a new star striker just days before the summer transfer window closes.
The summer has been marred by behind-the-scenes issues with Alexander Isak, who made himself unavailable for all of Newcastle United’s pre-season and their two opening Premier League games against Aston Villa and Liverpool.
Newcastle are set to sign Nick Woltemade for £69m, a club record fee for a striker who scored 12 Bundesliga goals last season. The 23-year-old has completed his medical and was also spotted at St James’ Park on Friday afternoon ahead of the official announcement.
It is now a case of the German being confirmed as a Newcastle player by the club, but in the meantime, a new report has surfaced revealing Woltemade’s wage on Tyneside.

Bundesliga expert Ben Boyd likened Woltemade to Harry Kane for his tendency to drop deep from the striker position. Newcastle fans will hope that their new striker can score as many goals as the former Tottenham Hotspur man, who looked set to beat Alan Shearer’s Premier League goalscoring record before his move to the Bundesliga.
Newcastle have spent well throughout the summer, but there is hope that another striker can come in before the end of the window.
While transfer spending has been a big talking point, there has been little word on wages for the Magpies’ new signings. However, inews have reported that Woltemade will be receiving a ‘four-fold rise’ at Newcastle.
Woltemade’s wage will not be anywhere near the £160,000-a-week earned by Bruno Guimaraes, but the report lists his salary at Stuttgart as £27,000-a-week, so his wage at Newcastle will be in the region of £108,000-a-week.
It remains to be seen what his transfer fee and wages mean for Newcastle’s PSR stance, but head coach Eddie Howe looked a relaxed figure when asked about their situation on Friday.

Woltemade has a lot to live up to with his transfer fee and wages, but there is hope that he can hit the ground running and use his immense technical ability to his advantage at Newcastle.
Fans will be happy to see a new striker coming through the door, especially after all of the rejection from other players and the ongoing Isak saga.
Newcastle United’s highest-earners | Weekly wage |
Bruno Guimaraes | £160,000-a-week |
Anthony Gordon | £150,000-a-week |
Joelinton | £150,000-a-week |
Sandro Tonali | £120,000-a-week |
Alexander Isak | £120,000-a-week |
Nick Woltemade | £108,000-a-week |
Geordie Boot Boys understand that Newcastle want to sign a second striker after Woltemade, with the likes of Yoane Wissa and Jorgen Strand Larsen linked with a move. Both players are keen on joining the Magpies, but several dominoes need to fall before either of them can join the club.
Newcastle will have to rely on William Osula against Leeds United on Saturday, before Woltemade is announced and likely leads the line against Wolves on 13 September.
