Simon Jordan has urged Crystal Palace to sell Newcastle United transfer target Marc Guehi this summer.
Newcastle want to sign Guehi, having tried to do exactly that last summer.
Despite making a number of bids, Newcastle’s attempts to sign Guehi collapsed in 2024, though he now looks set for a move.
Indeed, Guehi has just a year to go on his contract, meaning Palace do not have long to cash in if they are to bank anything approaching his actual market value.
Newcastle United are among those interested, while Liverpool have also been linked.
Former Eagles owner Jordan wants his old club to try and raise funds while they still can.

Simon Jordan tells Crystal Palace to sell Marc Guehi
Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan claimed that Palace have to sell the England international this summer.
“Sell him, unless you’re going to tie him down [to a new contract],” he said.
“And you’re not going to tie him down, are you?”
He added: “They took the roll of the dice last year, they didn’t take Newcastle’s money in so far as Newcastle really offered it and it was on the nail and all that sort of stuff.
“Now they’re against the clock. So what do you get? You get nothing? And then you’ve got to go and buy a new centre-back!
“So you might as well sell him.”
Fortunately for Eddie Howe, even despite the links with Liverpool, Guehi’s agents are not ruling out a move to Newcastle this summer.
Still, it remains to be seen if the club can put a package together to tempt Palace into a sale.
Why Newcastle United could beat Liverpool to Marc Guehi signing
Guehi wants first-team football at his next club, which feels of particular importance with the World Cup on the horizon.
The 24-year-old was England’s starting central defender at Euro 2024 and will no doubt be keen to ensure that remains the case by the time the Three Lions get to the showpiece tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico should they qualify.
With that in mind, Newcastle surely have the upper hand here. Liverpool boast Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as their first choice centre-backs, and they just starred in a dominant Premier League title win.
Player | Games in 2024/25 season | Age | Minutes played in 2024/25 season |
Dan Burn | 46 | 33 | 3,974 |
Fabian Schar | 42 | 33 | 3,633 |
Sven Botman | 11 | 25 | 645 |
Jamaal Lascelles | 0 | 31 | 0 |
Newcastle do have the likes of Dan Burn, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles and Sven Botman in their squad but none of them are without their concerns.
Both Burn and Schar are in their mid-thirties, while Lascelles and Botman have struggled with long-term injury issues.
