Newcastle United got the three points against Crystal Palace, that’s the main thing. But, for Lewis Miley, a little accolade is a nice bonus.
Despite Tino Livramento and Kieran Trippier being back in the matchday squad, Eddie Howe decided to keep faith in Lewis Miley at right-back.
Where is Lewis Miley’s best position – RB or CM?!
That decision paid dividends, as it was the Newcastle youngster who helped create the first goal for the Magpies, prodding the ball back across goal for Bruno Guimaraes to nod home.
It was a stunning performance from Miley all round, with the teenager taking top spot in our Newcastle United player ratings against Crystal Palace.

Lewis Miley’s flawless passing is best in the league
The assist was great. His defensive work was brilliant, too. But, Miley’s passing earned special praise after the game, and rightly so.
The youngster managed a 100% pass success rate throughout the 90 minutes, which is no mean feat in itself. However, it becomes even more impressive when you clock how many passes he actually made.
Miley’s tally of 59 successful passes is now the most of any player to complete 100% passes in a single game in the Premier League this season.
He’s already claimed a few records during his time at Newcastle and this breakthrough season has been full of praise and recognition for Miley. This is the latest, but we’re sure it won’t be the last.

Rave reviews for Lewis Miley
There was no end to the praise for Miley after the game. Alan Shearer named Miley his man of the match, describing him as ‘superb’.
Eddie Howe said Miley had an ‘unbelievable’ game as he tried to work out the youngster’s best position. It’s a nice headache to have, given Miley has proven he is now more than capable at both right-back and in his more favoured central midfield role.
Post-match, Sky Sports commentator Michael Bridges said: “Not only did he get an assist, but he was brilliant in his defensive duties, his passing accuracy was outstanding, he hasn’t given a ball away. This is not his natural position but the job he’s asked to do, Eddie Howe will be delighted with his performance and how consistent he’s becoming.”
