Newcastle United are not quite on the same page as Sven Botman amid ongoing talks about his future.
Sporting director Ross Wilson has confirmed that Newcastle United are in talks with both Botman and Tino Livramento over new contracts.
Wilson, however, did admit that some talks are more “difficult” than others.
Ross Wilson is already in talks with Tino Livramento and Sven Botman 😍
Do you see both signing new contracts? Be honest, as we've been burned before…
Of the two, Botman’s situation is surely the more pressing. The Dutchman will be out of contract in 2027, while Livramento’s deal runs until 2028.
It would be gutting to see the Dutchman return to full fitness and then leave the club either this summer or next.
While Botman is open to signing a new contract at Newcastle, there may be a spanner in the works.
Newcastle United and Sven Botman cannot agree on contract terms
According to iNews, the two parties aren’t on the same wavelength just yet.
Clearly, things can change, that is the pure nature of negotiations.
Still, the report does say that while Botman is open to staying at the club, those involved in the talks from both sides are currently apart on terms.
Interestingly, Liverpool have been linked with a move for Botman in recent months.
I’m one of Newcastle’s strangest January signings, but who am I?
Sven Botman’s injury record at Newcastle United explained and why it matters
There’s little doubt the 25-year-old is a fine defender when he’s at his absolute best.
In fact, Newcastle insiders think Botman could one day become one of the Premier League’s best defenders, should he sort his fitness record out.
Those injury issues, however, cannot be ignored.
| Games | Games missed through injury |
| 91 | 62 |
Since joining from Lille in the summer of 2022, Botman has made 91 appearances for Newcastle.
For most of those, he’s proven to be a brilliant signing, but the fact he’s missed 61 games through injury is the source of huge frustration.
It simply has to be taken into account. Botman is suffering a back injury right now and is in line to miss more.
Before the club commit to a new deal, Botman simply has to prove his fitness.
