Newcastle United icon Paul Dummett retired from football this weekend, and a select number of current players and staff were out celebrating with the former Magpie.

After more than 200 games for Newcastle, Paul Dummett had attempted to forge a career in the lower leagues this season, but it wasn’t to be.

He struggled to settle at Carlisle United and on Friday night, Dummett decided to call time on his playing days once and for all.

Tributes poured in for Dummett from the likes of Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, but it was a few of the older heads who really went the extra mile to celebrate their former Newcastle United teammate.

Who went out for Paul Dummett’s party?

After the win over Burnley, the Newcastle dressing room held aloft a Dummett shirt to show some love for the former full-back.

But, only eight players and staff were out on the town with Dummett into the night. Linchpins of the current team like Kieran Trippier, Aaron Ramsdale, Fabian Schar, and Harvey Barnes were joined by assistant manager Jason Tindall, goalkeepers John Ruddy and Mark Gillespie, and Newcastle icon Shola Ameobi for the party.

The group attended a VIP party at Say When, a new venue in Newcastle that’s a cafe by day and a wine bar by night. It’s on Gosforth High Street, if you’re curious, and the Newcastle players were some of the first to visit.

Interestingly, the venue is owned by Joe and Ollie Brack, who also have developments in various places across Newcastle including a Brack Burger restaurant in STACK at St. James’. No wonder the players wanted to give Say When a try, then.

Ageing Newcastle United players that need replacing next summer

This will not be the last retirement party we see around Newcastle, I’m sure. In fact, there are a few players who were out on Saturday night who may be ready to book their own farewell gathering.

Fabian Schar has been linked with a move away from Newcastle already and the 33-year-old has certainly fallen down the pecking order of late.

Name a better signing than Kieran Trippier in the PIF era at Newcastle United…

There surely isn’t many?

Meanwhile, injuries are catching up with Kieran Trippier, who at 35-years-old, is obviously close to that time when he will begin considering retirement options.

Those reserves goalkeepers who were out this weekend, Mark Gillespie (33) and John Ruddy (39), will both probably be thinking the same. They’ve got little chance of getting any minutes at Newcastle, and may want to end their careers at the top level rather than falling down the football league.
