Eddie Howe has been talking ahead of Newcastle United taking on Crystal Palace.

United preparing for their 52nd match of the season.

A return to action after the final international break of the season.

Newcastle United looking to make it three league victories in four games.

An excellent win over Man U at St James’ Park and the away one at Chelsea, only for then that derby defeat in the most recent match.

Eddie Howe speaking at his Newcastle United pre-match press conference ahead of facing Crystal Palace:

“Crystal Palace is always a tough game, home and away.

“They are a very well organised team with dangerous players. It is always a difficult game at Selhurst Park.”

Eddie Howe reflecting on this three week break ahead of facing Palace:

“The break came at a good time for us on reflection, at the time we probably wanted to play as soon as we could, but it was probably good to have that detachment.

“Very quickly our focus goes to the last seven games.

“Let’s try and finish the season well, that’s what everyone wants us to do.”

Eddie Howe on Kieran Trippier and the recent announcement he will be leaving at the end of June when his current contract expires:

“Kieran has handled himself superbly during this period.

“He came to see me and we had a discussion. He had a clear vision of what he saw his future looking like.

“We respected that and wanted him to get the best reception and reaction for his time here.

“For me, he goes down as one of the best players to have played for me during my time. He has been a model of consistency; he has that will to win.

“He has been a really good leader and he deserves to go with all the plaudits.”

Eddie Howe on injury and availability news ahead of Crystal Palace:

“We have mixed injury news during the break.

“Bruno suffered on his return from Brazil with illness , that has delayed his return, doubt over this game and the AFC Bournemouth game, maybe he will be back for Arsenal.

“Fabian Schär suffered an infection in his foot so he is in hospital having a minor surgery on that, so he will be out for about a month.

“Everyone else, I think we are good.”

(ED: Keith Downie of Sky Sports reporting that Sven Botman is one of those who will be available for the Palace match but will need to wear a mask if getting onto the pitch, after fracturing his eye socket due to the kick in the face from Bryan Brobbey.)
