The Newcastle City Council leader has reacted to the Newcastle United training ground plans.
Thursday saw the club finally make public an update.
The Newcastle United owners revealing that they had reached agreement to buy a 260 acre site near Newcastle Airport.
The Woolsington Hall Estate to be bought and be the location for a new training complex.
Thursday’s announcement saying that the state of the art new world-class training complex will come at a total cost of around £190m.
Colin Ferguson is the Newcastle City Council leader and he has told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that the club was “a source of huge pride for generations of Geordies.”
BBC News reporting that the Newcastle City Council leader went on to say: “However, it is also vitally important that any planning application that comes forward is properly consulted upon and that those living in the area have their say…Our independent planning committee will be robust in their challenge; as leader of the council I rightly do not have influence over that process. Whatever moves forward must be to the benefit of all the city.”
BBC News also report a council spokesperson adding that any planning application would be “subject to the same consultation process as any other resident or developer.”
The new state of the art Newcastle United training ground is to be funded by the Reuben family and the Saudi Arabia PIF.
David Hopkinson is the Newcastle United CEO and he said: “Subject to planning permission, our proposed performance complex will create the world’s best performance environment for our teams.”
