I was intrigued by these comments from Newcastle United fans.
They came after the defeat to Coventry City.
Have a look and see what you think.
I will give you my opinion on the comments at the bottom.
If you aren’t aware, after every match The Mag has comments from some of their contributors about what they’ve witnessed.
So I have picked out this selection from Monday night:
GToon: “An embarrassment on a scale not seen for quite a few years.”
Greg McPeake: “The result doesn’t reflect the game where we were on top for large parts and with a bit of luck would have been in control.”
Tony Mallabar: “Well I’ve been very supportive of our new manager before this shambles but Matthias Jaissle has well and truly been found out…”
Nat Seaton: “A game to forget against a poor team that put four past us (from just 6 on target!).”
I also want you to look at these key stats from Monday night at the CBS Arena…
Possession was Newcastle 67% Coventry 33%
Total shots were Newcastle 19 Coventry 9
Corners were Newcastle 6 Coventry 2
Touches in the opposition box Newcastle 39 Coventry 16
Expected goals: Newcastle 2.22 Coventry 1.66
Looking back at the four comments, which of them do you think fit best with the reality?
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, all Newcastle United fans, but surely you have to keep things in perspective. Don’t you?
No disrespect to GToon but I have to say his comments invariably give me a right laugh. He says this Coventry match was an embarrassment the likes of which we haven’t seen for years. The only trouble is that he pretty much always says something way over the top like this after EVERY defeat!!!
As for losing faith in and getting rid of the manager, surely he deserves a chance? The club was in chaos when he came in less than three weeks before the season kicked off and a squad that had lost its best players, then a load of young kids from overseas coming in who Jaissle hadn’t chosen himself.
The scoreline was horrible and the performance not great BUT if anybody thinks this display was the worst for years or we should be sacking the manager, I can’t get my head around that kind of mentality.
The other two comments bring some sanity to the conversation, the result didn’t reflect the number of chances and domination of the match in any way. Then whilst Newcastle’s finishing was woeful, everything Coventry hit went in!
We can’t be pushing the panic button at this point, it would be beyond crazy.
Give the manager and new squad a chance, you know, support them.
