Jarrod Bowen and his West Ham teammates look set to be relegated.

A must win match at St James’ Park saw the Hammers go 2-0 down in the opening twenty minutes and tamely lose 3-1 when the final whistle sounded on Sunday.

To survive, West Ham now need to win at home to Leeds on Sunday AND see Tottenham lose their last two matches.

With that backdrop, the future of Jarrod Bowen has come into question.

West Ham have huge financial problems and even if staying up, have a huge impending financial black hole to negotiate. The Guardian reporting that they could need to generate as much as £100m pure profit on the sale of players to avoid breaching financial rules.

Jarrod Bowen is captain of the club and their star player, so obviously West Ham desperate to hang onto him, whichever league they find themselves in next season. However, will the finances dictate otherwise?

The England international is the highest paid West Ham player, reported to be on close to £200,000 per week (£10m a year).

West Ham aren’t under any contract pressure to sell Bowen, he still has more than four years left on his current deal.

However, as I say, the financial reality may necessitate a sale, never mind what the player himself wants to do. Especially if West Ham are relegated.

Darren Bent has been talking about the player’s future when speaking to Talksport: “The logical move for Jarrod Bowen if he was to leave West Ham United and stay in the Premier League, would be Newcastle United.”

The former Tottenham striker believes West Ham could get up to £50m for Jarrod Bowen. The winger having scored eight Premier League goals this season and registering ten assists.

Newcastle United have been credited with interest in Jarrod Bowen down the years, including when he was still at Hull City before moving to West Ham for £20m in January 2020. Bowen had just turned 23 back then when moving to the Hammers, set to turn 30 this coming December it will be interesting to see which clubs might show an interest and at what price, including potentially Newcastle United.

Fair to say that if Jarrod Bowen had been auditioning for a move to St James’ Park, he didn’t put on his best performance. Lewis Hall absolutely dominated the West Ham winger in that 3-1 NUFC victory.
