PSG humiliation of Liverpool absolutely proves the truth of this

I was looking forward to watching Liverpool play PSG on Wednesday night.

I wasn’t disappointed.

I expected Liverpool to get battered and they did.

The only disappointment is that PSG didn’t win by the five or six goals they deserved, on the respective performances of the two teams.

Even the embarrassingly one-eyed vision of the former Liverpool players couldn’t prevent even them from admitting this was a humiliation. Some of them even confessing that Arne Slot had his team (the reigning Premier League champions…) set up like a non-league side playing a Premier League team in a cup competition.

Defence against attack, as Liverpool didn’t have a single shot on target the entire night, only one corner, whilst it was 18 v 3 in favour of PSG when it came to total shots.

The 2-0 final scoreline instead of an annihilation, only avoided by poor finishing, the woodwork, two clear penalties for PSG turned down, match officials helping Liverpool out, some inspired saves by the visiting keeper and so on.

Basically, PSG totally outclassed Liverpool and even Arne Slot had to hold his hands up and say how unbelievably lucky the scousers had been to not lose by a cricket score.

These have been the Champions League results across the last three seasons when PSG have played Premier League clubs.

2025/26 PSG Champions League results against English clubs:

PSG 2 Liverpool 0
Chelsea 2 PSG 8 (on aggregate)
PSG 1 Newcastle 1
PSG 5 Tottenham 3

2024/25 PSG Champions League results against English clubs:

Arsenal 1 PSG 3 (on aggregate)
Aston Villa 4 PSG 5 (on aggregate)
Liverpool 1 PSG 1 (on aggregate, PSG win 4-1 on penalties)
PSG 4 Man City 2
Arsenal 2 PSG 0

2023/24 PSG Champions League results against English clubs:

PSG 1 Newcastle 1
Newcastle 4 PSG 1

Ahead of PSG facing Liverpool last night, I had an article published on The Mag that pointed out how ridiculous the coverage by the English media is. They repeatedly quote how dominant PSG have been against Premier League clubs in recent years BUT refuse to credit one English club and manager that PSG and Luis Enrique have found impossible to beat.

Indeed, Newcastle United and Eddie Howe could and should have had three victories in three Champions League matches against PSG. Hammering them 4-1 at St James’ Park, then cheated out of a win in Paris by that late shocking referee/VAR penalty that gifted PSG a late equaliser. Then only in January, shocking match officials once again conspired against Newcastle United in Paris, giving the home side such a feeble penalty decision and a series of other helping hands. Eddie Howe’s team under the cosh and going behind in the opening half hour but then after that Newcastle were the better and more threatening team, who after equalising had the chances to go on and win, outplaying PSG on home turf as that game went on.

TNT Sports declaring after Liverpool’s latest defeat to PSG last night 9 April 2026:

‘PSG have an unbelievable record against Premier League sides.

Since the start of last season PSG have beaten these Premier League sides – Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Tottenham, Chelsea’

I’m sure there is another Premier League club that has also played PSG recently…

The above absolutely proves my point, why do TNT Sports decide to complete ignore Newcastle United the exception to the rule, when English teams play PSG.

Whilst Colin Millar of The Athletic is typical of many journalists after last night’s PSG v Liverpool match, putting out stats and lists such as these with of course Newcastle United also carefully ignored:

‘Since January 1, 2025 (a period of 15 months) … Paris Saint-Germain have won more home matches against Premier League teams (6: Arsenal, Villa, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs, Man City) than Tottenham have (5: Liverpool, Man United, Brentford, Burnley, Southampton).

Footnote: in that same period, PSG have also won away at each of Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, and defeated Tottenham (neutral venue, on penalties) to win the Super Cup.’
