A very busy start to the season now sees a third game in seven days, away at Spurs.
Matthias Jaissle now giving this Newcastle United injury update ahead of playing Tottenham on Saturday at 5.30pm.
Bazoumana Toure was withdrawn on Wednesday night at half-time despite having just equalised for Newcastle against West Brom. Matthias Jaissle asked whether he will be available for Saturday: “He was feeling a bit of pain but he should be fine for the weekend, we just didn’t want to take any risks.”
Tino Livramento was sent back to Tyneside before England’s first match of the World Cup after picking up a calf injury in training.
The full-back then had a surgical procedure and more than two months later, the Newcastle United boss asked how close Tino Livramento is to returning to availability:
Matthias Jaissle: “It is step by step and we are happy that he is now back training. He still follows an dividual programme but sooner than later he will be fully back in training and then we can talk about squad plannings, when he will be able to be in the matchday squads and getting the first minutes [on the pitch]. Again though, step by step. He was out a long time and we want to take our time [with him], learn from the past, give him rather one week longer than shorter, so to have him back on a consistent basis.”
Matthias Jaissle was more guarded when asked about other injured players, such as William Osula: “He is now getting the best treatment but it is too early to give a clear prognosis and timeframe…when he will be back. [Just] Like Joe [Joelinton] and Dan Burn.”
So for Saturday it Spurs, it appears that at least four players will be unavailable: Burn, Livramento, Osula and Joelinton.
However, Toure apparently fine, plus Matthias Jaissle having also confirmed that Nico Gonzalez will be considered for selection at Spurs.
