It has now been revealed what the Anthony Gordon sell-on clause is.
This comes less than seven weeks before the summer 2026 transfer window opens on Monday 15 June.
A lot of speculation that Anthony Gordon could be a player who leaves St James’ Park, to help fund a major Newcastle United squad overhaul in the months ahead.
The Athletic reporting: ‘Newcastle United have not actively engaged with the Anthony Gordon speculation and will not be drawn on a likely asking price, though sources with knowledge suggest they would like to receive around £80m for the forward.’
In modern football, the deals get ever more complicated.
Anthony Gordon was bought by Newcastle United for an initial £40m transfer fee in January 2023.
That deal saw an additional £5m to potentially be paid to Everton in future add-ons.
When it comes to later selling a player, invariably you then find out that a sell-on clause has also been included when originally buying that player.
The Athletic say that their information is that they have now: ‘…learned that Everton inserted a sell-on clause into the deal that took Gordon to Tyneside. The Merseysiders are due 15 per cent of any profit Newcastle make, so that is a factor in any discussions over Gordon’s asking price.’
