For those fans who want to see Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe leave and think it would be easy to bring in somebody to do a better job, here is a fact!
Yes, they all want to win. but most just want the money.
Most don’t want to absorb themselves and their family into the area of any club.
Let’s take Tottenham as an example of a so-called big club, steeped in history, European trophy winners with a long line of ex-players and managers who bleat on about being part of the culture, part of “The Tottenham way.”
Look at the clip of them now.
A long line of managers wanting to get in at Spurs, then get out and count the money.
Football has changed and most managers adopt that stance now for just about every club.
Jurgen Klopp was the last manager to immerse himself at Liverpool.
Pep Guardiola is doing the same at Manchester City, creating a legacy.
Take those two away and the rest are journeymen. All the way back to Ferguson.
Every successful manager Newcastle United have had has completely immersed himself into the fanbase, the city and the club.
Just like Eddie Howe.
Hindsight is wonderful but look back at Alan Pardew. He was a great manager in really tough circumstances but he didn’t immerse himself in the club and the culture, he finished 5th and was still hated at the time by most of us, because he was here for Mike Ashley and not the fans. Nobody really at the time appreciated what he achieved.
Eddie Howe, like Kevin Keegan, Bobby Robson, Rafa Benitez, will always be a part of this club.
They get it, they get us.
A new manager, whether from these shores or overseas, may come in, talk all the rubbish about how they know our history etc etc. They might (or might not) give us a lift, but 99.9% of them won’t be here very long, then they will be off ASAP with a golden handshake to “their” new club.
