Harry Redknapp has been talking about Newcastle United.
The former Spurs and West Ham manager, discussing NUFC as we are now in late March and into the business end of things.
Newcastle United with one final huge game before the international break.
Eddie Howe’s team going into this Sunderland match on the back of huge Premier League wins over Man U and Chelsea.
Also of course, United heading into Sunday’s derby match on the back of their midweek Champions League exit to Barcelona.
Harry Redknapp declaring to BetVictor: “Wow what a game and a week for Newcastle, Barcelona away and then Sunderland! I know it was a heavy defeat but that was harsh on the Magpies and they really gave Barca a scare in that first half. I can’t defend some of that defending though.”
That sums up what we all watched.
Newcastle United more than a match for Barcelona across three-quarters of this Champions League last 16 tie, then that last quarter of the tie, the final half of Wednesday’s match, seeing things finally fall apart for Newcastle United.
However, no time for any of us to feel sorry for ourselves, least of all the Newcastle United players.
Those excellent wins over Man U and Chelsea have presented Newcastle United with the chance of more Champions League glory, as results on Saturday now mean that Eddie Howe’s team will move to only four points adrift of top five,, if beating the Mackems today.
Harry Redknapp looking forward to today’s derby clash: “Sunderland’s form has really dropped off of late but I suppose that’s to be expected after such a great start to the season. They’ll be very up for this one though after beating the Geordie Boys earlier in the season! Expect plenty of drama, plenty of action! I think Newcastle will narrowly win.”
Harry Redknapp predicts a 2-1 United win and as Eddie Howe’s side have scored two or more goals in 11 of the last 12 PL matches at St James’ Park, it backs up his judgement. Especially when in their last 20 games in all competitions, only twice have Sunderland scored more than one goal.
Harry Redknapp also picking out “One to watch” today: “I don’t often pick left-backs, but Lewis Hall is no average left-back, what a player. This lad seems to get better every time I see him!”
Yes, Lewis Hall is an incredible talent. Playing for the club he is a lifelong fan of, we are so lucky to have him.
Here’s hoping for another huge performance today from Lewis Hall (and his teammates) before he heads off to join up with England.
