Where do you think Newcastle United and Sunderland will finish in the upcoming season?
Where will they be placed in the final 2026/27 Premier League table?
A very ‘interesting’ nine and a half months ahead of us before things finish off with Newcastle United away at Hull City on 30 May 2027.
Interesting to get a neutral perspective ahead of the upcoming campaign.
A neutral perspective that hasn’t only predicted what will happen with Newcastle United and Sunderland, but all places 1st to 20th for the 2026/27 Premier League season.
ESPN declaring: ‘Predicting a Premier League season is rarely straightforward. New signings are still bedding in, new managers are implementing their ideas and, with the transfer window still open, squads could look very different by the time the deadline passes. But that hasn’t stopped us trying.’
They then go on to explain: ‘Ahead of the new campaign, we asked the ESPN UK team to predict the Premier League table from first to 20th, before combining their selections to produce one consensus ranking. Each club’s final position was determined by its average prediction across the panel.’
So here are the collective neutral ESPN panel predictions, their final 2026/27 Premier League table…

| Aston Villa | 6.4 |
| Brighton | 8.9 |
| Bournemouth | 9.7 |
| Brentford | 10.4 |
| Newcastle United | 10.7 |
| Nottingham Forest | 12.5 |
| Leeds United | 12.8 |
| Crystal Palace | 13.8 |
| Everton | 14.2 |

ESPN then going on to give this overview on Newcastle United: ‘Newcastle are another team whose finishing position is tough to predict after a summer of change. Eddie Howe, Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimarães and Sandro Tonali are all gone, replaced by relatively unproven off and on-pitch talent. While they settle in at 11th in the table, they could easily find themselves much higher, or lower depending on how the recruits settle in.’ (The ESPN panel predicted as high as 6th, down to as low as 13th)
Then the same on Sunderland from ESPN: ‘While Sunderland finished seventh on their return to the Premier League last season to qualify for the Europa League, many saw that as fairly lucky when looking at the statistics, and that — as well as an increased workload — seems to be reflected in a prediction of 17th place here. Nobody thinks they’ll finish higher than 13th.’
