It was widely expected that Jacob Murphy would leave Newcastle United in the summer 2026 transfer window.
Everton were reported to be interested in signing the 31-year-old.
Then later Nottingham Forest trying to sign Jacob Murphy before the window closed, it was widely reported that they made at least two offers and their last attempt was to offer £15m.
With so much experience already lost from the squad in the transfer window, Matthias Jaissle said to have made clear that he preferred it if Jacob Murphy was to stay, the same with Joe Willock who Besiktas were trying to sign.
Signed in 2017 by Rafa Benitez, Jacob Murphy set to complete ten years at St James’ Park in summer 2027 when his current deal runs out.
However, Wednesday has seen details of a new contract made public.
Craig Hope at The Mail reports that his information is that Jacob Murphy is very close to agreeing a new contract, a deal that would take him up to 30 June 2028, an added 12 months.
The man from The Mail stating that ‘…talks have accelerated and the winger is ready to sign improved terms.’
This media exclusive going on to say that whilst Jacob Murphy is set to extend his Newcastle United contract to the end of June 2028, that doesn’t mean he will stay on Tyneside that long. With a key factor in agreeing the new deal from the club side of things, is that with an extended contract it will mean they can bank a transfer fee if Murphy leaves next summer.
