The Newcastle United hierarchy have been explaining the departure of Bruno Guimaraes.
No official finalisation of the transfer made as yet.
However, club officials making clear that it is happening.
Bruno Guimaraes to join Arsenal for £75m.
David Hopkinson detailing that both clubs had to compromise.
The Newcastle United CEO stating: “It was not the fee that I think Arsenal had hoped to pay….and of course we would have liked an even higher number. But I think that you are dealing with sophisticated actors on both sides and that is what negotiation looks like.”
Bruno Guimaraes turns 29 in November.
The NUFC CEO going on to say: “It is a fee that satisfies us and if you want to put a merchandising spin on it, it is the highest fee for a player in that position at that age. Is that a good deal for Newcastle United? I believe it is. But Arsenal are getting a very special player, a special person, so this works from a financial perspective for both sides.”
Ross Wilson has also been talking through the Bruno Guimaraes transfer.
The NUFC Sporting Director declaring: “We didn’t want to sell Bruno…it wasn’t in the plan to sell Bruno….none of us wanted to sell Bruno. He is our captain and he was very, very important to us and the debate over his price, it is a world record fee for a player of his age.”
Newcastle United paid £41.25m for Bruno Guimaraes in January 2022 and Lyon have a contract clause which given them a percentage of any profit United make. The French club reportedly set to bank up to £7m of the £75m Arsenal are paying.
Ross Wilson: “What we had to weigh up was, very respectfully from Bruno with his behaviour towards us, very emotionally as well, he effectively told us he wanted to leave and move on. That doesn’t mean he can go but it certainly plays a part in what our thinking is, when we hit a certain range of number. But there is no part in saying it was part of our strategy and was in our thinking this summer, it wasn’t. But we have got to be flexible and react to things that happen.”
