The TSG Hoffenheim Joelinton transfer record is set to be broken thanks to this Newcastle United bid.
It is just short of seven years since it was officially announced on 23 July 2019 that the Brazilian player had moved to St James’ Park.
The £40m that Hoffenheim banked for Joelinton established a new club record selling transfer fee.
Seven years later that record still stands but Bazoumana Toure is set to change that.
Media reporting in both Germany and the UK states that the deal agreed between the Bundesliga club and Newcastle United is for a total of €50m (approx £42.7m). Kicker reporting that this is a guaranteed €48m (approx £41.0m) transfer fee plus “easily achievable” €2m (approx £1.7m) more in future bonus payments.
Either way it exceeds the £40m Hoffenheim received for Joelinton from NUFC.
Hoffenheim also reported to have secured a contract clause that will given them 10% of any profit if Newcastle United go on to sell him in the future.
Bazoumana Toure is flying direct from the United States to Tyneside for his medial and to complete the transfer, with Ivory Coast having been knocked out of the World Cup by Norway.
When Hoffenheim sold Joelinton to Newcastle United for £40m in July 2019,it broke the previous record of £37m, that transfer fee generated by Roberto Firmino heading to Liverpool in 2015.
Interesting to look back at what Joelinton said when Joelinton left seven years ago.
Hoffenheim official statement – 23 July 2019:
Joelinton Cassio Apolinário de Lira will leave the Bundesliga team TSG Hoffenheim and play in the future for the English Premier League club Newcastle United. The 22-year-old Brazilian striker arrived in the summer of 2015.
The change of the striker is the largest financial transfer in the history of TSG Hoffenheim so far.
“A club of our kind can hardly afford to refuse such an offer, and it is important to balance between athletic desire and financial reason, and to live up to our responsibility towards the club and its employees,” says Alexander Rosen.
“It’s also important to respect the player’s side, and to include his perspective in the overall picture, and Joe has made it very clear to us that he has to go that way for himself.”
The director of football also sees the record transfer confirming the way forwardfor TSG Hoffenheim.
“Not for the first and certainly not for the last time, we face such a decision, and we always have to meet it with a view to the future viability of the club and in the knowledge that we find new hopeful talents and develop players, Joelinton is the latest proof of this proven and unequalled strategy: Roberto Firmino, Kevin Volland, Niklas Süle and most recently Kerem Demirbay and Nico Schulz are other players on this ever-expanding list.
