Newcastle United have now agreed to buy Sean Steur.
The Ajax midfielder now set to move to Tyneside.
Over in the Netherlands it is now reported that a €27m (£23m) deal has been agreed between Newcastle United and Ajax for the exciting teenage talent.
De Telegraaf report that the agreement is for €24m (£20.5m) to be paid as the initial transfer fee and then “easily achievable” future bonus payments of another €3m (£2.5m).
The Dutch newspaper also revealing that if Newcastle United sell Sean Steur in the future, Ajax will be entitled to 12.5 percent of any profit in that transfer.
Sean Steur made his breakthrough at the age of 17 into the Ajax first team this most recent (2025/26) season and ended up making 22 appearances, scoring one goal and getting two assists.
The now 18-year-old has played at every youth age group for the Netherlands up to and including the Under 19s.
Standing 6ft tall, De Telegraaf report that the central midfielder has now agreed a contract with Newcastle United until the end of June 2031.
Writing for De Telegraaf, Mike Verweij: “It is striking that Sean Steur is closing the door on the Johan Cruijff ArenA after 26 matches for Ajax 1…After the mismanagement of recent years, Ajax has a limited war chest to strengthen the squad, and therefore the board is seeking additional funds on the transfer market. In that respect, the sale of Steur comes as a godsend….On the other hand, there is naturally the enormous sporting loss, as Steur is regarded as a mega-talent.”
No surprise if this transfer becomes reality, with Newcastle United having already signed 20-year-olds Ewen Jaouen and Bazoumana Toure the clear main emphasis is on signing young emerging talent from the continent this summer.
