Seven Premier League matches remain for Newcastle United, can they qualify for the Champions League?
“Mission impossible” I hear you say.
Maybe it will prove to be BUT I wouldn’t write our chances off just yet.
At this stage last season in their quest for Champions League football, Newcastle United were on 56 points after 31 PL matches.
This time, Newcastle United are on 14 points less at the same time of the season, 42 points from 31 PL games.
Eddie Howe and his players picked up 10 points from those last seven games of the 2024/25 season to finish fifth on 66 points.
Even if Newcastle United win all of their final seven matches of the 2025/26 season, it would still only total 63 points.
This time though, points are so far spread around a lot more, Premier League teams very inconsistent, with the exception of Arsenal, possibly Manchester City as well at a push.
I have had a look at the current Premier League table and how each team has performed in their last seven PL matches, how many points they have picked up, then added that same number of points to get a predicted final points total after 38 matches (with Man City and Palace I have done the last eight matches of form, as they both have played only 30 PL matches so far).
Predicted final 2025/26 Premier League table (final points total predicted, then after each club the number of points they currently have and the predicted number of points they will get in their remaining games):
87 Arsenal (70+17)
79 Man City (61+18)
69 Man U (55+14)
62 Villa (54+8)
59 Liverpool (49+10)
58 Everton (46+12)
56 Chelsea (48+8)
56 Brentford (46+10)
55 Brighton (43+12)
54 Fulham (44+10)
51 Newcastle United (42+9)
51 Bournemouth (42+9)
50 Crystal Palace (39+11)
50 Sunderland (43+7)
As you can see, based on the last seven PL matches, Newcastle United predicted to get another nine points and finish on 52 points.
That would leave NUFC eight points short of Liverpool in fifth, who are predicted to get 59 points.
So the challenge is, can Newcastle United get at least 18 points from their final seven games to match that predicted Liverpool total? Or 19+ to get to 60+ points?
These are the final seven Newcastle United matches: Palace (A), Bournemouth (H), Arsenal (A), Brighton (H), Forest (A), West Ham (H), Fulham (A).
It won’t be easy but Eddie Howe and his players have gone on a number of lengthy winning runs in the past.
Only last season, mid-December to Mid January saw nine NUFC wins in a row in all competitions. Then mid-March to Mid-April saw six Newcastle United victories on the bounce.
With only one match to play per week now, returning players (Bruno, Tonali, Miley, Schar etc) and Arsenal away the only remaining game against a team in the top eight, can Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United players pull this off?
