Some interesting comments from Crystal Palace fans ahead of this afternoon’s Newcastle United match.
Two teams currently in the wrong half of the table.
Both Pierre Sage and Matthias Jaissle under pressure to get a win today.
Crystal Palace fans commenting on their Holmesdale message board:
‘Absolutely no idea what the result will be. Reading about the Newcastle performances they sound about as chaotic as ours. The winner will likely be the team that makes the least mistakes rather than the team who plays the best football.’
‘No way we keep a clean sheet. If we win it will be something like 3-2.’
‘I’m thinking that as well, whoever plays at the back and even if the formation changes, with all the chopping and changing and quite simply players just not being good enough, there’s no way we’re keeping a clean sheet, but the toon have got their own problems, so 3-2 to us’
‘I predict that after the match it will be suggested that whichever manager has just lost should be sacked. That’s pretty well where we are as a society.’
‘Yep if either side get embarrassed then their manager could well be given the heave ho.’
‘Watching Spurs and Cov and they both look better than us, can’t see how we can beat Newcastle unless we improve 200%.’
‘Newcastle have lost 3 out of their last 4 games and these games included 2 Away defeats both 4-1.
I would not be surprised if we attain some points from this game.’
‘4-4 then.’
‘We’ll come second’
‘The score is going to be close. I reckon Sage has given the players the appropriate rocket up the jacksey, and whoever wins, will be by the odd goal. The important thing is for Palace to have fight, some defensive coordination and some attacking ideas.’
‘Nice if we could keep a clean sheet for at least the first 15 minutes this week,’
‘A polite thought to all real palace out there. Pierre sage has not had our best striker, our best winger and joined us for a great support we have/ still have? f… Newcastle and lets get 3points sunday.’
‘Someone’s been on the sauce since they got out of work.’
‘Newcastle are a bunch of self centered…. who think they are bigger than they are and need a damn good thrashing.’
‘Lets all thump Newcastle so hard they begin speaking a comprehensible English.’
‘Y I, give ’em some Eke Thump.’
‘My heart says 3-1 Palace, my head says 3-1 Newcastle if Barnes and Elanga play.’
‘I have in mind a 2-1 /3-1 victory against a Newcastle team who have lost key players.’
‘Played in Turkey just a few days ago and results after a Euro game have been generally poor. At least the weather is clear today, a day for crisp passing and energetic running.
A draw.’
‘They have one more point than us at present.
Hope we build on Thursday’s performance albeit against Besiktas B team.’
‘After watching the besiktas game I’m sticking with my 3-2, they’ll obviously be the obligatory conceding of goals, but I think we’ll out score them, especially if mateta is up for the scrap again.’
‘I believe Elanga is fit for the game.
The thought of him running at our defence or in transition with his incredible pace is not a comforting one.
He can be erratic with his delivery and finishing, but I could see him causing problems along with the tricky Barnes if we leave the usual spaces down the sides.’
‘After being slated by Rooney on MOTD over his the alleged handball in our Forest win, Darren (my hero is Clattenburg) England is back in the VAR seat looking for revenge. He can chat with his Geordie mates when he joins the train at Doncaster. I suspect both teams will be very cagey and try to avoid defeat which may work to our advantage as long as DE doesn’t get involved. He stitched us up before and he’ll do it again given half a chance. Ill take another draw.’
‘Newcastle are not the best of travellers and haven’t seen anything this season that would suggest they have fixed that against anyone that puts them on the back foot
Still not happy with the defence but then again I don’t suppose that anyone is ,lets hope they have a good one .
2-0.’
‘In the summer Newcastle lost key players Tonali, Guimaraes and Gordon.
They strengthened their midfield with 4 players for a sum which could reach £150 Mill and they have to adjust to the demands of their new team.
Newcastle also lost Eddie Howe who took ‘Hold of the reins’ when they were 19th in the PL after 11 games and he led them to 11th that season. In the following 3 seasons Newcastle finished 4th, 7th and 5th.’
‘I hope we don’t have Wharton marking Dan Burn at set pieces as he did with Dunk in the Brighton game.
Surely we can also remember not to leave opposing players marked beyond the far post at set pieces as happened v Brighton and Forest.
Newcastle have some rapid players in wide areas, so perhaps try and avoid spaces behind the wing backs for them to exploit because they will take advantage.
I’m sure Sage knows all this anyway, but just in case ..!’
‘A game we could and should win, especially with JPM and Sarr available.
Get the balls into the box should be the mantra from Sage.
Both teams to score and Palace to win.’
