Simon Jordan has been talking about Newcastle United.
The 2025/26 season shortly coming to an end and an ‘interesting’ summer ahead.
Simon Jordan declaring: “I am not entirely sure why Newcastle United would be compromised by PSR. They have just sold a £125m footballer. So whilst they have bought players, those have been capitalised over four years, and the value of Isak has been brought into this year. So I would imagine Newcastle may have some bandwidth to be able to spend money.”
The Premier League is of course switching from PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules) to SCR (Squad Cost Ratio), more in line with the UEFA rules for their competitions.
However, whatever the financial rules are, whatever the acronym changes to, one thing is for sure.
The clubs that already are in the strongest positions, the ones that have already built up the highest annual revenues, will remain dominant when it comes to the ability to pay more in transfer fees and wages. Wages especially are seen as by far the biggest factor when it comes to clubs most likely to be successful on the pitch.
Simon Jordan pointing out: “But the problem Newcastle United have got and the problem they will continue to have, is they can’t bridge the £300million gap to those that they want to be.”
The Talksport pundit speaking about the financial chasm between the Premier League ‘Big Six’ and Newcastle United.
Simon Jordan adding: “And Newcastle United can’t keep their players. If they can’t keep their players, and as much as Sandro Tonali is an ungrateful little wretch that should be staying longer because he caused them problems when he got banned with the betting staff, he will go. Other players will go. Anthony Gordon will probably go and, all of a sudden, before you get yourself an opportunity to build, you’re rebuilding.”
As I said earlier, especially when it comes to the ability to pay wages, those clubs having such an advantage over Newcastle United and the rest.
I bit pathetic though of Simon Jordan to go on like that about Sandro Tonali, as the Italy international has never said he intends to leave Newcastle United. Same with Anthony Gordon. A never ending media agenda claiming United’s best players will leave the club and yet in nine transfer windows under Eddie Howe and these Newcastle United owners, only the Rat has wanted to leave NUFC and done so, all of the other players who have left these past four and a half years it was the club’s choice for them to leave.
