Bruno Guimaraes has been speaking to Brazilian media following the Arsenal match.

The Newcastle United captain starting his first match since picking up the injury in a win over Spurs on 10 February.

Bruno Guimaraes wearing his heart on his sleeve as always, this time when talking to ESPN Brazil: “Without a doubt, this has been the worst season since I’ve been here. We have done great things for the club recently. In the last four years, since the club was bought, we saved the team from relegation, won a [domestic] trophy after 70 years, went to the Champions League twice… I don’t know if some players got a little complacent; overall, we got a little complacent, but it’s not a good season.”

Bruno has been a huge miss.

A much improved team display on Saturday saw the Newcastle United skipper and Sandro Tonali win the midfield battle but unfortunately players didn’t take the chances created, whilst Eze scored with Arsenal’s only significant threat to Nick Pope’s goal.

Bruno Guimaraes going on to add: “I would say it’s a season to forget. We have four games left, we know that the difference to 7th or 8th place, who will qualify for Europe is possible. We have four games to finish in the best way possible, but it’s not a good season on average, even though, individually, I’m having a good year, with more goals scored in the Premier League , it’s a strange mix of feelings.”

Bruno Guimaraes had also talked about the injury he picked up against Tottenham.

The Brazil international suffered a serious muscle injury in his left thigh, which kept him out of action for more than two months until he came on as a sub against Bournemouth at St James’ Park.

Bruno Guimaraes on his comeback: “I think they are programming a load control for me. I came back in the last game [against Bournemouth] to play 30 minutes, in this one [against Arsenal] I was supposed to play 60, I got greedy, ended up playing 75, but there came a point where I couldn’t take it anymore, cramps all over my body…”

The United captain is now looking forward to Saturday.

Bruno Guimaraes hoping to complete the full match against Brighton: “I had the worst injury of my career, it was very difficult for me. Some wanted me to have surgery, but I decided against it, I believe it was the best thing that could have happened. I feel very good, but being out of action for so long had never happened before. I’m happy to be back, back in good shape. I’m not yet at my ideal physical level, but I’ve already made a big leap and I hope to try for 90 minutes in the next game.”
