A former Newcastle United star has been accused of fare dodging on the London Underground.
Sebastien Bassong was one of the few positives in the 2008/09 relegation season having arrived from Metz.
The central defender then sold by Mike Ashley for £8m to Tottenham as he sold anybody the club received an offer for after the then NUFC owner took United down for the first, but not last, time.
Now Sebastien Bassong is claimed to have dodged a £7 Tube fare, allegedly using an invalid travel pass and following another passenger through a London Underground barrier.
The Sun reporting that the former Newcastle United star is now being prosecuted by Transport for London (TfL) after a revenue officer stopped him.
Sebastien Bassong (Pictured below…on the left) telling the newspaper that he did not realise this pass he had been given was not valid, claiming he had been handed the card by somebody else.
The report states that Sebastien Bassong is said to have attempted to use an Oyster card before entering the compulsory ticket area without a valid ticket and a witness is quoted, TfL employee Adebukola Anifowose: “I observed Mr Bassong pretend to tap an Oyster card enclosed in a white wallet before tailgating through the wide-aisle gate behind another male. When requested to produce the card used at the barrier, Mr Bassong presented a Transport for London Staff Nominee Pass without the required accompanying photocard. System checks later confirmed that the pass did not belong to him and had last been used in October 2025. No valid ticket was shown for being in the compulsory ticket area. The fare avoided was £7.”
