Barcelona are now favourites to sign Anthony Gordon.

The La Liga champions having moved ahead of Bayern Munich.

The Times have revealed that their information is that Barcelona have this week made an approach to Newcastle United to try and get a deal done.

United and Barcelona holding talks to try and reach agreement and The Times saying they are now in pole position ahead of the Bundesliga team. They report Liverpool also still holding an interest in signing Anthony Gordon.

All of this good news for Newcastle United as they look to maximise the return on the former Everton winger who they paid and initial £40m for back in January 2023, plus a potential £5m more in future add-ons.

The Times report that their information is that Newcastle United have set an asking price of £75m for Anthony Gordon, although their understanding is that this could be broken down into a guaranteed £65m payment plus £10m in add-ons to help get their valuation realised by Barcelona, or another club..

The fact that Anthony Gordon can play on either wing as well as through the middle, means this versatility adds further appeal to the Newcastle United star.

Gordon is currently this season’s joint third top scorer in the Champions League with ten goals, level with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Julian Alvarez, behind only Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe.

Anthony Gordon also ended the season as Newcastle United’s top goalscorer across all competitions with 17 goals.
