Will the Wor Flags display honouring Kevin Keegan at Liverpool match ever be surpassed?
Never say never.
The departure of Mike Ashley meant the return of Wor Flags to matches, as they ended their boycott just under five years ago now.
The pre-match flag displays once again becoming part of the matchday routine, starting with the first post-takeover match against Spurs at St James’ Park in October 2021.
The last five years have been incredible, on and off the pitch.
Much of the off the pitch, on the terraces, positivity has been down to Wor Flags.
We are so lucky to have these astonishing unpaid volunteers who put in an incredible amount of time and work, especially last season when the 58 match schedule was relentless, more than half of those matches at St James’ Park.
One of the very most important things is that Wor Flags is all done by Newcastle United fans, a small group of them somehow organise brilliant display after brilliant display, whilst the rest of us chip in with cash to help enable them to put on displays.
Today against Bournemouth is a very special display.
It celebrates ten years of Wor Flags, who set up to bring positivity after Mike Ashley relegated Newcastle United for a second time in 2016.

The Wor Flags ‘goal’ explained:
‘Our Goal
Wor Flags goal is straightforward – to create displays at St James’ Park that are worthy of this great club. We will achieve this in the following ways:
Hundreds of black and white hand-held waver flags
Larger custom design one and two poler waver flags
Large text banners featuring messages of support
Foils, surfers and custom tifos’
