Aston Villa fans watched on as their team lost at home to Newcastle United.
Eddie Howe’s side knocking Unai Emery and his players out of the FA Cup.
An interesting mix of views from Aston Villa fans.
Some gutted and some…claiming they are ecstatic to be knocked out of the FA Cup.
Newcastle United winning 3-1 despite the appalling match officials.
Aston Villa fans commenting via their Villa Talk message board:
‘Well beaten by a much better team today. No complaints.’
‘Chris Kavanagh all he could for us today. My MOTM.’
‘Happy we’re out of the FA Cup without any more injuries. Team can focus on the Premier League and Europa League.
Players won’t feel down from the loss as it’s down to Bizot red card.
Rest up and prep for Leeds. The important win was Brighton on Wednesday. We need to win the ones that matter.’
‘”Happy we’re out of the FA Cup”. Surreal.’
‘Lots of us are going to die without seeing us win another trophy. When’s the open top bus parade for finishing 5th going to be?’
‘Another embarrassment, concentrate on the league top 5 cos we’re never winning an English comp with this team’
‘We were totally in control 11 v 11, the madness of Bizot cost us this, Newcastle were all over the shop first half and never better than us’
‘Thank god that’s over.
Good mid season game to keep our players fresh
Let’s get back to focusing on competitions we care about!’
‘Well played Newcastle.’
‘Absolute gift for them.
No way in hell they would’ve won if it wasn’t for Major mistakes from Bizot and Digne.’
‘I shudder to think what would have happened if the ref wasn’t so f…ing awful.’
‘9 on the pitch and 5-0’
‘And when people say they want rid of VAR show them this game.
The refs are absolutely useless and get decisions wrong even when they can look at them.’
‘Their fans came in pi..ed off about getting worked at SJP a few weeks back, got really really mad about the first half refereeing, then all decided they were going to Wembley after beating us.
Quite the range of emotions for that lot, good for them. Enjoy Azerbaijan on Wednesday.’
‘A throwback to a time when we didn’t have VAR. We were s..t then too.’
‘Wow, that Ref and linesman were utter s..t. Absolutely shocking decisions, most in our favour.
We were the better team 11v11 but Bizot had his blood rush.’
‘Hopefully no new injuries. We move on. More annoyed about the rugby today to be honest!’
‘How many times did Danny Murphy mention Bruno was missing.
I don’t remember a single mention of McGinn, Tielemans or Bouba.
Interesting that!’
‘In fairness, he is a Newcastle fan.’
‘Prob entertaining for neutrals but thoroughly horrible match all round. Got some serious luck from referee, but shot ourselves in the foot many, many times. Newcastle were really pretty poor, super wasteful – 3 shots on target and 3 goals. Which makes it feel all the worse.’
‘There’s losing and then there is being a laughing stock and only some of the worst refereeing with lack of VAR has meant we managed to keep ten players on the pitch, score a goal and not concede at least one penalty, perhaps two.
Absolutely disgraceful, and all for the world to see.’
‘ I’m more annoyed at how easy we made it for them when down to 10, just wouldn’t think it’s possible after having to watch Villa try and play against 10.’
‘Oh well, we have bigger games to come.’
‘The sad reality at the moment is, we simply need to qualify for the CL first and foremost, due to the money. Everything else is secondary, however much we all want to see us lift a trophy.’
‘We showed we were better than them a few weeks back at SJP
Disappointing to lose, but 11 vs 11, I’m convinced we win, even if we weren’t great.’
‘Newcastle get a huge deflected goal here and go on to win. With the third a defensive mistake and a lucky deflection.’
‘I don’t have that real angry down feeling that I usually have after a loss. Was I resigned after the red or am I not as bothered about this cup as I thought I was?’
‘Ref was probably MOTM for us and we still contrived to throw it away. Our game man management is awful. We have a corner with seconds to go till HT and we somehow managed to get a man sent off. ‘
‘Ref earned a very poor from me despite him loving Villa more than I think I do.’
‘Frankly, I think it’s for the best that we went out of this competition. Easily the most difficult of the 3 competitions that we are still in, and the least important of them.’
‘Couldn’t care less about this Cup and that’s sad really but it just shows how much money means over winning a domestic Cup.’
‘I don’t feel hard done by at all because we deserved to get beat.’
‘In this world you force your luck. Their goals were an inevitability as soon as the second – half started. Absolutely woeful performance in the second – half.’
‘We got done by the ref – had he given a penalty there’s a good chance it stays 1 – 0 with Emi saving it instead he gave the free kick and that was us done.’
‘No idea why Newcastle wanted that as much as they did – they don’t need any extra games either.
Couldn’t care less about the performance or result because we have bigger fish to fry.’
‘I hate losing but if we are to lose a game, this cup is the one you would probably take it in. I hate their fans.’
‘Ref was atrocious. Got every big decision wrong except Bizot’s sending off.
We were carving them open in the first half.
Bizot man of the match, Newcastle were cooked until the sending off. He won the game for them.’
‘For all the Newcastle sobbing , VAR would have chalked off their equaliser as Burn clearly fouls Tammy as he challenges for the ball.’
‘Var would’ve also chalked off our goal! The sending off decided this result!’
‘I know I shouldn’t be bothered but we lost anyway….. cant believe the ref didn’t give that penalty.
He was truly shocking tonight!’
‘Fans were good as well today. This one’s on the players.’
‘Yes, the ones at the stadium cared. Unlike the ones sitting on their couches.’
‘Seeing how many are happy we’re out. It’s disgusting.’
‘People just tell themselves that to feel less bad about the result. Nobody believes it.’
‘The celebrations from the northerners just showed what a shabby outfit they are. Pleased we are out if I’m honest !’
‘As much as losing to them irritates me I really ain’t that bothered about today. Was always going to be difficult once down to 10 and them equalising early second half. Today will probably be a blessing for us. We’ve got bigger games to worry about.’
‘We needed a run in the FA Cup like a hole in the head so it’s probably for the best we are out. But to go out in that manner, getting increasingly overrun as the second half went on, risks having a depressing effect on the morale of the players and fans.’
‘If I had to choose when we’d beat Newcastle, a couple weeks ago at their place or today, I take 2 weeks ago 11/10 times. So would I imagine everyone at the club in any capacity as well.’
‘We are still in on a trophy that is worth more financially than the FA Cup, and we are also a bigger fish in that pond than the FA Cup one.’
‘No complaints from me, I thought it was pretty even in the first half, changed by a very poor decision from the linesman that gave us an advantage and a very poor decision from our goalkeeper that completely changed the game. Up until the sending off I thought we were edging it but perhaps not enough to deserve the lead – after the sending off, it was pretty obvious we were going to need to score a couple more goals to go through, and that always seemed unlikely.
Fair play to Newcastle, they’re a good side and they managed to find a way to break us down and make the advantage count, good luck to them in the next round. It was a game decided by a good refereeing decision that might otherwise have been dominated by a bad one, so I suppose they’ll see it as a bit of a justified win.’
