Interesting to read through these BBC Sport ‘neutrals’ comments, following on from Newcastle United losing 2-1 against Sunderland.

United taking the lead, only to throw away the match in the second half.

Two poorly defended goals gifting the win to Sunderland.

Anthony Gordon having given Newcastle the advantage on 10 minutes.

Then a very scrappy second half eventually seeing Brobbey score the winner.

The BBC Sport readers comments from neutrals, some from Sunderland fans, plus one or two Newcastle United supporters also contributing, as well as the ‘odd’ Arsenal and Liverpool fans:

‘Fake county derby. Two nothing teams who are plastic embarrassments. Come to Anfield and you’ll see what footballing royalty looks like.’

‘I do believe we drew at Anfield this season? Short memories hahahaha.’

‘Anfield? As in the home of the most pathetic title defence in recent history?’

‘6 European trophies unlike the plastic north east teams who fund their transfers through tax payers money via the county they created.’

‘(Sunderland fan) Newcastle’s quest to be the ‘best team in the world’ suffering a bit of a setback.

Officially the 2nd best club in Tyne & Wear.’

‘In terms of player quality I’d have to disagree but in terms of grinding out a result for the fans- you are totally right.’

‘Just shows how much rugby is bigger than football in the north east. Nobody was alive when both sides last won a title but remember the rugby team doing it’

‘No one knows who Newcastle are outside Tyneside… let alone Europe!!! Well done Sunderland!! From a Gooner’

‘A best starting XI from both – Only Hall, Bruno, Gordon and Tonali make the team and at least 2 of them are gone next season.’

‘My favorite comment recently was some typical deluded Newcastle fan . “Don’t let the league table fool you. This Newcastle team is a far better team than Man united”.’

‘As a Brighton fan I went up to Sunderland last week, lovely fans who were most welcoming, delighted to see them win today, well done Black cats.’

‘They love seagulls. Famous for it.’

‘Sunderland supporters are very loyal and dedicated fans without being nasty to other fans. Defined by the love towards their own club rather than their hatred towards others. Well in my personal experience anyway, sure plenty of Newcastle fans disagree.’

‘Newcastle season has caught up with them missing too many key players .’

‘Congratulations to the black cat’s on a thoroughly deserved victory and let’s hope those certain Newcastle fans are dealt with accordingly.’

‘Newcastle small club, never won anything. Who think they are big? If you go to Europe, they have never even heard of them! Well done Sunderland

From a Gooner COYG.’

‘(Arsenal fan) You must be a spud, trying to tarnish us.

We ain’t got anything against the magpies or black cats.’

‘From a Gooner… thank you, and well done!! Always good to beat a club who are tiny, but think they are big!!

From a Gooner. COYG’

‘And it’s always good watching Man city smash arsenal in a cup again from everyone in the Premier league FACT.’

‘Sunderland deserve all credit for the commitment and passion this season. The double over the toon must be fairly amusing too. It’s great to see one of the countries oldest and most established clubs doing what it does best and in the right way. A proper football club. From a disgruntled Chelsea fan!!’

‘Do you think they will add to their 4 games ever played in competitive European competitions this year?’

‘Port Vale are a better team than Newcastle.’

‘They were definitely better than Sunderland.’

‘Don’t worry Sunderland fans, someday you too could get knocked out of competitions by the likes of Barcelona and Man City.

Or, y’know, beat Liverpool in a final. That’s another option.’

‘As a Bournemouth fan I have a soft spot for the Magpies. Personally would give King Eddie more time. The Isak debacle certainly didn’t help either. Peace.’

‘Newcastle want Stevie Bruce back and may mike Ashley will come back if the Geordie fans beg him to.’

‘We came we saw we conquered to gifted that shower a head start & watched our string put 2 past them can’t wait for the excuses the usual suspects make we are Sunderland we are Sunderland magnificent performance black cats.’

‘Newcastle gave the ball away too much and wasted every set piece.

You don’t win games without getting the basics right.’

‘Yeah, it’s almost as though they played an extra game mid-week or something, somewhere in Europe.’
