David Ornstein says that Newcastle United have decided against signing James Trafford and are instead looking at alternatives. He reports that Zion Suzuki and Carl Rushworth are two of the leading candidates.
Born in the USA, Zion Suzuki is 24 and plays for Parma in Italy, as well as number one for Japan. He played in this summer’s World Cup for them.
Carl Rushworth is 25 and on the books of Brighton, he played all 46 Championship matches on loan at Coventry last season and conceded the fewest goals of any second tier team. Previous reports have said that at least two Premier League clubs have already seen £20m+ bid rejected by Brighton, one of those clubs claimed to be Coventry trying to make Rushworth a permanent signing.
Reports elsewhere have suggested that James Trafford wants clauses in his contract that would mean any club buying him agreeing to him being able to automatically leave if approaches made by other clubs. Obviously no idea if this was the case but it could partly explain Newcastle United losing interest if there were such prohibitive clauses.
