In 36 Premier League matches this season, the vast majority of Newcastle United fans are desperate for Bruno Guimaraes not to be on the winning side.
Then there are the other two matches.
Bruno Guimaraes was back in the Northeast on Saturday night as Arsenal were taking on Sunderland in the 8pm late Premier League match.
A classic case of the enemy of my enemy is my friend, Newcastle United fans wanting the Mackems to lose far more than not wanting their former captain to succeed.
Bruno Guimaraes though found himself in what is now his normal position for Arsenal, sitting on the bench. Sunderland fans delivering plenty of abuse from the terraces to the former Newcastle United talisman, as he watched the Gunners labour in a poor quality first half of football with minimal goal threat at either end of the pitch.
Usually a left-back, Myles Lewis-Skelly has been playing as a makeshift midfielder ahead of Bruno Guimaraes this season. However, he was so bad in the opening 45 minutes, Arteta dragged him off at half-time and put Bruno on.
Less than ten minutes after the break and Sunderland were awarded a very soft penalty.
David Raya pulled off a brilliant save though to keep the spot-kick out.
Then 121 seconds later Bruno Guimaraes had produced a brilliant effort from outside the penalty area that smashed into the Mackem net.
I punched the air and celebrated, as did everybody around me in the pub where I was watching the match. Any doubts about who Newcastle United fans would rather fail, absolutely dispelled. Sunderland win that one every time.
Bruno Guimaraes won this game for Arsenal and a late Saka penalty (and Mackem red card) simply doubled the misery for the remaining Sunderland fans who were still inside the stadium.
The abuse for Bruno Guimaraes now a little hollow from the not so many who had stayed until the end of this home defeat.
Whether or not this elevates Bruno from his current role as impact sub remains to be seen.
However, he has completed one half of this season’s mission to upset the Mackems.
Bruno Guimaraes was asked about what it meant, scoring against Sunderland as an ex-United player: “Beautiful goal. A very good place, everyone knows my past, I had an amazing history at Newcastle but now I’m trying to create a new history here and I start with the right foot…I score a beautiful goal, beautiful moment for me and my family and I am happy.”
