Lens had already guaranteed Ligue 1 runners-up spot and Champions League qualification.
Then on Friday it was the chance of silverware.
The French Cup final saw Lens up against Nice.
Two familiar faces in the starting eleven for Lens.
Step forward former Newcastle United wingers Florian Thauvin and Allan Saint-Maximin.
By the end of the night, Lens had won the French Cup for the first time in the club’s history.
Allan Saint-Maximin played over an hour and was subbed off with Lens 2-1 up.
Florian Thuavin subbed off a minute before Lens made it 3-1, Thauvin having scored the opening goal and getting an assist for the second.
Florian Thauvin had a disastrous brief time at Newcastle United under Steve McClaren but the France international has been brilliant for Lens this season. Starting 29 Ligue 1 matches he has scored 11 and got six assists as they are set to finish second in the league. Whilst his third goal in the French cup set Lens on their way last night.
Allan Saint-Maximin of course spent far much more time on the pitch for Newcastle United, giving us all a bit of hope and entertainment during the dark days of Steve Bruce and Mike Ashley in charge.
As Eddie Howe looked to develop his Newcastle United team, ASM ended up a squad player and was sold to Al Ahli.
These last three years seeing Allan Saint-Maximin playing in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Mexico and now back in France.
Lasting less than five months at Club America in Mexico, ASM signed for Lens at the start of February 2026.
Ahead of last night’s Cup final win, Allan Saint-Maximin with four goals and three assists in 13 league appearances to help Lens finish runners-up
Florian Thauvin was named man of the match last night but it is Allan Saint-Maximin brimming with emotion as always.
ASM taking to Instagram after winning the French cup: “I have never imagined being there and experiencing these emotions…destined to see them with Lens. The people of Lens have big hearts. An incredible sporting adventure…Thank you for everything, I will never forget you.”
