Some interesting comments from this BBC Sport pundit on Newcastle United.
Chris Sutton speaking ahead of Saturday’s match.
Newcastle United facing Everton at St James’ Park.
Eddie Howe and his Newcastle United team hoping to follow up Tuesday’s progress to the last 16 of the Champions League.
United winning 3-2 and completing a 9-3 aggregate victory over Qarabag.
United also knowing that a win today would take them above Everton and potentially as high as eighth.
Chris Sutton saying about Newcastle United ahead of the match at SJP: “Anthony Gordon looks sharp as anything up front for Newcastle, with Nick Woltemade playing just in behind. The Magpies won 4-1 at Hill Dickinson Stadium in November and I’d usually back them in this kind of game at St James’ Park and be quite confident they would win.”
Interesting to see what Eddie Howe does today.
As the BBC Sport pundit says, Anthony Gordon doing well when playing through the middle and the same with Big Nick in a deeper role.
However, in that 4-1 away win, Nick Woltemade was excellent up front against Everton.
Chris Sutton also saying: “But Everton won here last season and, given how good they are on the road, I just have a sneaky feeling they will get something this time too. Everton’s inconsistency makes them an absolute nightmare to predict, and the fact their away form is much better than their home results doesn’t help me much here either.”
A strange one as Everton have won none of their last seven home games, in all competitions losing five of the seven. Yet away from home, the Toffees in their last six have won three and drawn three.
Chris Sutton predicts a 1-1 draw and maybe the key to this game is whether Newcastle United can create and take their chances.
I know that sounds obvious, but only the top three have conceded less PL goals than the 31 Everton have, whist only Wolves and Forest have scored less than the 29 PL goals Moyes’ team have managed.
David Moyes usually produces organised but boring negative teams, so it will be down to whether United can break them down.
I think NUFC will do so and get the three points.
