In reality, we have never had it so good as Newcastle United fans.
I speak from experience, having been to my first match in 1965, a fan for at least 60 years.
Winning the Fairs Cup in 1969, I thought it was the beginning of trophies arriving at Newcastle.
I had to wait until 1974 for an FA Cup Final – we lost.
Another cup final, this time the league cup in 1976 – we lost.
Then a period of nothing until Kevin Keegan arrived and we could start to believe again.
In the 1990s, Newcastle United missed out on the Premier League title despite a 12 point lead. Followed by a couple more (losing) FA Cup Finals in the late 1990s.
Bobby Robson gave us hope but then the unthinkable happened, we were purchased by a snake in the grass, who used the club as his own Sports Direct advertising medium.
For 14 years from 2007 to 2021 we were in the wilderness of football. No investment, not challenging for trophies, the objective was to avoid being relegated so the gravy train could line the owner’ pockets. We were relegated twice under that ownership.
So fast forward to today.
Under Eddie Howe in less than five years;
Two Cup Finals – One Trophy. Two Champions League campaigns. Giving it a real go in both domestic Cups. Playing attractive football that is great to watch.
As I said, we have never had it so good.
In my opinion it is not broken, so why try and fix it?!!
