Troy Deeney has picked his best 12 performers from the latest top tier action.
The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.
Included in his dozen choices is one from Newcastle United.
This NUFC player putting in an excellent performance at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United winning 3-1 against West Ham.
Troy Deeney explains why he has chosen William Osula for his Premier League team of the week and then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below:
“William Osula has been unbelievable. When you look at Newcastle getting Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade, he was under the radar. Eddie Howe has trusted him, and he is kind of like Callum Wilson. He had two wonderful finishes against West Ham in a massive breakout season for him.”
I think fair to say William Osula is looking a very different proposition now, compared to even the start of this season.
After 14 very brief sub appearances in the Premier League last season that totalled only 124 minutes on the pitch, William Osula started his first ever NUFC Premier League game away in the 0-0 draw at Elland Road at the end of August 2025.
Nick Woltemade then became available and had a great impact in his opening months at the club. Indeed, having scored on Saturday against West Ham, Nick Woltemade now has 11 goals in all competitions and five assists, not exactly the disaster some people want to make his first season out to be. William Osula finding his starts restricted and then had an ankle issue for months.
However, the last eight Premier League matches William Osula has scored six goals, he started six of these PL games and came off the bench in the other two. That brace against West Ham coming on top of a very good all round performance.
William Osula has now scored seven goals this season in 745 Premier League minutes, an average of a PL goal every 106 minutes on the pitch.
With two goals in the Carabao Cup as well, William Osula will move into double figures if scoring against at Fulham in the final match of the season.
Troy Deeney has declared this to be a “breakout season” for William Osula and if he can continue to make this kind of progress, who knows what he could be capable of?
