It has now been revealed that Bayern Munich have made a formal approach to Newcastle United for Anthony Gordon.
Sky Sports with the exclusive, as they report that talks have now opened between United and the Bundesliga champions.
Keith Downie covers Newcastle United for Sky Sports and he states: “The Magpies and Bayern have a good relationship and official contact has been made by the German champions, who have been keeping an eye on the 25-year-old since the turn of the year. Gordon’s agents have also been pictured in Barcelona in recent days but there’s been no direct contact with Newcastle and Barca as yet.”
This latest news follows that which came out of Germany earlier this week.
Sky Germany reported that Bayern Munich had formally offered terms on a five year contract to Anthony Gordon.
This following on from a well publicised meeting, when Gordon Stipic-Wipfler (Executive Director of Unique Sports Group, who represent the Newcastle United star) had travelled to Munich the previous week to talk about a potential move to the Bundesliga champions (Bayern Munich having already confirmed their 12th title win in the last 13 seasons).
Vincent Kompany and Bayern Munich wanting Anthony Gordon to join the likes of Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz, other Premier League players who chose to move to Bayern.
Sport BILD claimed that the aim was for Bayern Munich to reach an agreement with Anthony Gordon first, then try to negotiate on price with Newcastle United.
Obviously you never know for sure with transfer stories until deals are completed but what I do believe now is that it appears to be the case that Anthony Gordon is set to leave Newcastle United this summer IF somebody meets their valuation.
Gordon’s agents having very public meetings with interested clubs and if that is the case, then it can only be surely due to Newcastle United giving the go ahead for talks to take place.
By allowing talks to be held with interested clubs, United obviously hoping this will help ensure they get the maximum possible money for the 25-year-old. Just as importantly, get a deal sorted early on and then plan accordingly to use the money to help bring in the targets Eddie Howe wants for next season. It had been previously reported that if he was to move this summer, Anthony Gordon himself wanted to get a deal sorted before the World Cup finals which are now less than five weeks away.
The Newcastle United owners made a total hash of summer 2025, refusing to sell Alexander Isak all summer, only to do a u-turn on deadline day. This totally sabotaged Eddie Howe’s pre-season preparations and having lost his two strikers (Wilson and Isak), their eventual replacements from way down the list of Howe’s preferred targets arrived at the very end of the summer 2025 window, weeks after the season had started and zero pre-season with their new NUFC teammates.
With more than four years left on his current Newcastle United deal, absolutely no contract pressure on NUFC to sell Anthony Gordon. So it will only be if a club meets United’s valuation if he is to leave, Bayern Munich nor any other club, will be getting a cut price bargain deal.
