Reported now as breaking news, Newcastle United and Arsenal close to reaching agreement on Bruno Guimaraes moving to North London.
An embarrassing summer of behaviour from Arsenal now at least seeing them deal directly with Newcastle United, rather than through the media.
The usually reliable David Ornstein of The Athletic reporting on Tuesday: ‘Arsenal and Newcastle United are nearing a total agreement for the transfer of midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.’
A lot of nonsense from willing Arsenal shill journalists across the summer who have been pushing the club’s interests.
Plus Arsenal dealing through ‘intermediaries’ across the summer rather than directly contacting Newcastle United. David Ornstein saying today how during that period an embarrassing offer of less than £60m was made ‘verbally’ by the Gunners.
Yesterday finally brought news that Arsenal had at last done things properly and made official contact with Newcastle United. At last making a formal offer some two months into the transfer window, that offer though rejected.
News of that rejected offer came with additional reporting that talks were continuing between the two clubs.
So if Ornstein if to be believed today, Arsenal now willing at this late stage to move towards Newcastle’s valuation on Bruno Guimaraes.
The man from The Athletic adding that there is: ‘…a desire among all parties to bring the situation to a close and a deal is on course for completion. Guimaraes is awaiting permission to undergo a medical and seal a move to north London. Guimaraes is currently in Spain with his Newcastle team-mates at the squad’s pre-season training camp in La Manga.’
It does sadly appear that Bruno Guimaraes is going to end up going to the Emirates.
It is just a shame that Arsenal didn’t do things properly back in June, rather than spending a couple of months wasting everybody’s time using journalists to try and force a deal on the cheap.
