Nottingham Forest fans have been commenting after Sunday’s match at the City Ground.
Intriguing to read what they have been saying about Newcastle United.
Nottingham Forest fans have still never seen their team win a Premier League match at home against United.
Indeed, it is still 1987 when Forest last won at home in the top flight against Newcastle United.
However, after making it eight Premier League matches without defeat on Sunday, that point proved enough to guarantee safety, with West Ham losing to Arsenal after the game at the City Ground.
Forest have now lost only three of their last 16 league matches and heading into the Newcastle United match, were top of the Premier League form table with 14 points from their last six matches.
That late season form eventually bringing safety under their fourth manager of the 2025/26 campaign.
Nottingham Forest fans commenting via their LTLF message board:
‘Brilliant point! We always get stuffed by the Geordies so it was fantastic to kill any hopes they had of European football.’
‘Funny game that. Had a bit of end of season feel between 2 sides with not much to play for. Even the Newcastle fans were pretty quiet until the scored. But a good result really.’
‘It wasn’t a great performance, but we did just about enough to grind out a point and that now feels like PL safety (come on Arsenal!).
Mostly, it seemed like we were running on fumes and playing with limited confidence. For all their superiority, Newcastle didn’t really fashion the quality chances that they probably warranted.
Some terrible officiating and it just seemed like nearly every deflected ball made its way to a Newcastle player. I don’t think many people in the ground felt we could bring it back in the last 20 minutes, but cometh the hour cometh the man.
A huge relief amongst Forest fans walking back into the city.’
‘A good point against a team stronger than us, at least today with all our injuries.’
‘Seems to have gone under the radar but when was the last time we went 8 top flight games undefeated?’
‘Just spent a lot of the match roaring at the ref.
It appeared to me he gave a free kick against Forest players for having the audacity for going for the same ball as Newcastle players.
Even when Tonali pretended he stepped on a landmine – should have been booked for simulation.
He wont be but the ref should be ashamed of his performance today.’
‘Watched it at my parents, thought the game was scrappy with neither team showing much quality in the final third. Quite surprised how poor they were, they looked a decent side a not long ago.’
‘Think that’s a great point today given the circumstances. Probably one that seals our premier league status. Anderson is so good, I’m 32 and he’s probably the best player I’ve ever seen wear the garabaldi and when it’s announced he’s gone this summer I’ll be devastated but my word does he deserve it.’
‘Really good point and a strong end to the match.. too many injuries to key personnel is starting to show.. happy with that.’
‘Safety is paramount, but spurs relegation would be delicious’
‘Poor from both sides today. I thought Newcastle looked woeful. At least we had a few injuries.
Easy goal to conceed. Straight down the middle. Nobody close. However, Ando’s goal was sheer class.
I’d have take a draw to begin with. So I guess that’ll do.’
‘After that showing from Newcastle, are we confident they’ll take care of Wham next week?’
‘Just west ham and spurs now fighting that relegation spot after Arsena’s win against the Hammers.’
‘We are in the EPL next season guys. Bearing in mind what a crazy season we’ve had, well done Nottingham Forest and particularly Vitor for guiding us over the line.’
‘Fair result from what was a pretty poor game. Understandable from our injury depleted side, but expected more from Newcastle.
Piece of magic from Geordie to get us the point, what a player he is.’
‘That’s a good point with a patched up side against a nearly full strength, 12 man Newcastle team.’
‘Say what you like about Howe, but he’s turned that bunch of Newcastle multi-millionaires into a really well drilled Championship team .’
‘Surprised by the back five at the start and it was clearly didn’t work. But took a time out after 22 mins, (sorry Sels faked the injury), and gave VP time to change back to a 4-4-2 and put Neco on the left, and we were much better after that.
Overall we looked off the pace, and missing key players, and given how important the game was I was surprised how quiet the crowd, but now we know the Arsenal result another year in the Prem.’
‘Absolutely delighted for the club, manager and all our superb supporters.
Outside of the great performances of late, to do this with 4 bloody managers and coaching staff is remarkable.
Anderson, it’ll be sad to see him go, but what a goal to remember him for. Fingers crossed we invest that money wisely, players of his quality are hard to find.’
‘A monumental point against 12 men, with half a squad and running on fumes after so many games in the week.
4th Prem game in a row where Newcastle’s midfield dominates us at the City Ground. How are they so low down in the league with such powerhouse in the middle of the park, with a good complementory team surrounding them?’
‘I thought Newcastle were well on top in the first 20 or so minutes but a change to a back 4 seemed to even things up (I felt Netz looked a bargain signing).
The 2nd half continued with Newcastle more likely to score.’
‘I read Newcastle are making an official complaint about the referee and VAR.
It seems odd to complain because the ref was biased in your favour.
Tierney is always bad and always anti-Forest, but yesterday he was terrible, and yet again he was anti-Forest.’
‘Watched Match of the Day and I think the producer must be a Newcastle fan as most of highlights primarily showed them attacking.’
‘TBF they had the better chances. How many big saves did Pope make compared to Sels?
The match actually went pretty much as expected. Another patched up starting XI was on paper worse than Newcastle’s so no surprise they had most of the pressure and probably deserved to take the lead.’
‘I went to the game yesterday in deep trepidation, fearing the worst (a Forest defeat followed by a West Ham Win).
The last time I felt so down about a match before kickoff was when we were last relegated, and I just sensed the same sort of despair among other fans that I felt in 2005.
Part of the trouble was that I believe Howe knows how to beat a Forest team, and he used to do so when in charge at Bournemouth, and now he is at Newcastle,
I can’t recall his record against us when he was in charge at Burnley, but he seems to adopt a strategy of everyone in his team being big, burly, fast, and up for 90 minutes high pressing… oh, and being good at the dark arts.’
