Suppose they had a World Cup and nobody came…

Crippling heat, drug cartels shooting it out with the army and above all, the actions of a deranged lunatic in The White House.

When put together with vastly inflated ticket prices, to me it presents a perfect storm of reasons not to travel to America and Mexico to watch World Cup games.

Indeed, I can see certain countries potentially pulling out.

This year marks the 60th anniversary of England’s World Cup win.

It would have been fitting for England to have once again staged the World Cup, providing a much more stable and welcoming environment.

But nobody in the FA and Government appears to remember that happy day.

Nor are they seemingly aware of the untold millions of pounds in revenue that could have been generated.

But at least pubs will see an upturn on takings and there will be a better atmosphere than in half empty stadiums.

A massive spend on food and alcohol as fans settle in to watch the games at home.

But I won’t be watching.

Like many of you I support only one club, one team, from one beautiful city.

Although I suppose I may watch the England games until my eyelids droop and I fall asleep!
