I can’t get my head around this at Newcastle United?
What is now happening at St James’ Park.
It is puzzling and explicable.
Let me explain.
By the way, this may be news to you unless you actually go to was the Newcastle United home matches.
Well, go to watch the Newcastle United home matches AND don’t disappear at half-time to the bog or for a pint, or both.
I am of course talking about the half-time competition for Newcastle United fans.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching this before, you can enter a competition ahead of home games and one NUFC supporter is then given the chance on a matchday to win a holiday to Las Vegas, the prize provided by a club sponsor.
To win the prize you get three chances to kick a football half the length of the St James’ Park pitch into a relatively small target/gap.
The whole thing is absolutely woeful and embarrassing, the bloke on the pitch with a microphone is bad enough presenting it, but what is truly the most puzzling and inexplicable thing is usually the Newcastle United fan who has entered and won the chance to try and win the free holiday.
With rare exceptions, those who get to try their luck on the St James’ Park pitch look like they have rarely, if ever, played football in their lives AND the majority of them can’t even kick the ball the half length of the pitch. They might as well be asking them to land the ball in a tree in Leazes Park from the St James’ Park halfway line.
Why on earth would you volunteer for this very public humiliation?
Maybe it is like that thing where the most boring person you know, thinks that without any detailed work or preparation, they are going to be able to get up and make a best man’s speech that everybody will find hilarious.
It is like someone entering a competition to swim the channel and forgetting the small detail that they can’t swim, don’t even have their ten metres certificate for swimming across the pool as a kid.
Or like when you see somebody who is really thick entering a quiz show on TV where they have to answer questions. Basically anything that needs more than summoning up mystical powers to help you decide which boxes to open on Deal or no deal.
Please end this half-time farce at St James’ Park and prevent any more of my fellow Newcastle United fans volunteering to humiliate themselves.
