Predicted Newcastle United team v Aston Villa ahead of kick-off today

Looking at this Newcastle United team v Aston Villa.

Matthias Jaissle and his players looking to bounce back from Monday night.

A bizarre game saw Newcastle United control most of the game and have far more chances, corners, possession, touches in the opposition box, only to display woeful finishing and some poor individual defensive errors.

United haven’t lost at St James’ Park for six months and the last time Newcastle failed to score at St James’ Park in all competitions was back in January, against Aston Villa in a 2-0 defeat…

The new Newcastle United boss having overseen four wins, two draws and two defeats so far after the 4-1 at Coventry.

Aston Villa have only won one of six in the Premier League and have conceded 11 goals, the most they have conceded in the opening half dozen top flight games since the mid-80s, a season when they were relegated.

As a reminder, this was the Newcastle United team v Coventry City:

Hornicek, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Lewis Miley, Gonzalez, Willock, Murphy, Wissa, Barnes, Fernandez-Pardo

On Thursday at his pre-match press conference, Matthias Jaissle gave a little more away than normal regarding injuries/fitness.

It sounds like Bazoumana Toure will be available today after his injury scare at Coventry.

Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey, Tino Livramento and Ewen Jaouen will definitely be missing still though.

Matthias Jaissle appeared to make clear that Joelinton is now under consideration for a possible start today but the Head Coach seemingly saying Dan Burn isn’t, so the club captain on the bench again probably.

Amar Dedic and William Osula came off the bench on Monday and the Head Coach not making specific reference to them on Thursday but it was the first match of the season when Osula last played before off the bench on Monday.

Taking everything into consideration, in my opinion….

This is my predicted Newcastle United team v Aston Villa:

Hornicek, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Lewis Miley, Gonzalez, Joelinton, Willock, Wissa, Barnes, Fernandez-Pardo

If my prediction is proved correct, this would mean one change:

IN – Joelinton

OUT – Murphy

If Dedic is physically in a position to do so, then I think very possible he could play right-back instead of Lewis Miley.

However, my money is on only Joelinton replacing Jacob Murphy today, though we could see maybe the odd tweak in terms of who plays where to accommodate that change.
