This is the official Premier League shortlist and comments on each of the eight.

Rayan Cherki (Man City)
P31 W20 D7 L4 G4 A12
Manchester City’s maverick No 10, has produced moments of breathtaking brilliance for Pep Guardiola’s side in his first Premier League season. Cherki’s 16 goal involvements include 12 assists, second only to Bruno Fernandes, the pick of which was an outlandish rabona cross, which was headed in by Phil Foden City’s 3-0 success at home to Sunderland.

Matheus Fernandes (West Ham)
P34 W9 D9 L16 G3 A3
It has been a difficult season for West Ham United, but the form of skilful Portuguese midfielder Fernandes has been a ray of light for Hammers’ fans. The 21-year-old has impressed with his composure in possession, energy in midfield and maturity in a side embroiled in a relegation battle. He has six goal involvements, three goals and three assists, including the fastest goal of the season after just 30 seconds against Aston Villa in December.

Lewis Hall (Newcastle)
P28 W10 D6 L12 G1 A1 CS3
The 21-year-old England international has been one of 2025/26’s standout performers for Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United side. Hall has shown great versatility, and can operate as a left-back, wing-back, and on occasion even played in an inverted midfield role, showcasing exceptional dribbling, passing range, and composure under pressure.

Michael Kayode (Brentford)
P35 W14 D9 L12 G1 A1 CS8
Right-back Kayode has been in stellar form for Brentford and firmly established himself as Keith Andrews’ first-choice right-back. The 21-year-old has added power and pace to the Bees’ defence, while his long throw-ins have become a major tactical weapon, leading to five goals and leading to, or directly causing, 40 shots on goal in the 2025/26 campaign.

Junior Kroupi (AFC Bournemouth)
P31 W11 D13 L7 G12 A0
Kroupi’s introduction to the Premier League was a slow one, but a goal in a nine-minute cameo against Leeds United in September earned him a starting spot, and he hasn’t look back. The 19-year-old Frenchman has scored 12 goals this season, the first teenager to register a dozen goals in his debut Premier League season since Robbie Fowler for Liverpool in 1993/94. He has averaged a goal every 121 minutes in the league – second only Erling Haaland.

Kobbie Mainoo (Man Utd)
P26 W17 D5 L4 G1 A2
Having barely had a look-in under former boss Ruben Amorim, Mainoo has thrived under the leadership of interim manager Michael Carrick. The 21-year-old academy graduate has been the ideal springboard for Manchester United’s swift breakaways and showed he has the temperament for the big occasion, scoring the winning goal against Liverpool to secure Champions League qualification just days after he put pen to paper on a new five-year contract with the club.

Nico O’Reilly (Man City)
P33 W23 D7 L5 G5 A3 CS9
It has been an outstanding campaign for academy graduate O’Reilly. The England international’s tactical adaptability and technical quality has been instrumental in Man City’s push for a domestic Treble – the Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup. The 21-year-old also netted two goals in the EFL Cup final to seal a 2-0 win over Arsenal at Wembley Stadium and was recently named Premier League Academy Graduate of the Year.

Alex Scott (AFC Bournemouth)
P36 W13 D7 L16 G3 A1
Midfielder Scott, 22, has enjoyed an impressive campaign for Andoni Iraola’s side. Aged 22, he emerged as a key midfielder for the Cherries with a string of impressive performances, showcasing his creative talents. Scott contributed four goal involvements, including a stunning winner at Arsenal.
