The Newcastle United Armed Forces Supporters Club once again demonstrated the incredible strength and unity of the Toon Army community with a hugely successful Black and White Ball held at the iconic St James’ Park.
The event brought together supporters, serving personnel, veterans and guests from across the region for a memorable evening celebrating Newcastle United and the armed forces community.
With entertainment, fundraising activities and plenty of black and white spirit on show, the night highlighted just how much the supporters club has grown in recent years.
What began as a small collective of Newcastle United fans with armed forces connections has rapidly expanded into one of the club’s most respected and active supporters groups.
Membership continues to grow by the day, with supporters joining from across the UK and overseas, united by both their service backgrounds and their passion for Newcastle United.
The Black and White Ball also proved to be another major success off the pitch, raising thousands of pounds for local veterans charities. Funds generated during the evening will help support former servicemen and women across the North East, continuing the supporters club’s outstanding commitment to giving back to the veteran community.
Throughout the evening there was a strong sense of pride, friendship and togetherness, values which sit at the heart of both Newcastle United and the armed forces. The event showcased the powerful bond between football and community spirit, with guests already looking forward to future events.
A fitting end to the evening came with recognition of the prestigious Don Bell Award, an honour that reflects dedication, service and commitment within the Newcastle United Armed Forces Supporters Club.
A special thank you was given to Chris Bowman and Kate Bowman, relatives of Donald Simpson Bell, with Kate kindly presenting the award and sharing Don Bell’s remarkable story with those in attendance.
The club were also delighted to announce this year’s recipient of the Don Bell Award:
Lieutenant Paul McKenna
Paul has been a consistent and highly valued member of NUAFSC since its formation, supporting the club, helping tirelessly behind the scenes, and taking part in key charity events including the Stadium Walk. His commitment, dedication and attitude truly reflect everything the Don Bell Award stands for.
